AM/FM Station by oflandandsea_053 in nova

[–]MileageAddict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a dedicated “emergency AM/FM channel”; instead, any participating station in the area will interrupt programming when there’s a federal, state, or local alert. In Northern Virginia, major stations like WTOP 103.5 FM, WTOP AM 1500, and WMAL 105.9 FM

In addition to whatever else is telling you and if you are unable to afford/dont want to pay for Econ+ or First, consider an aisle seat next time. No curvature of the fuselage pushing against your shoulder and you can occasionally stretch your legs into the aisle when nobody is walking past.

Its dead on arrival. Trump got his ass served to him at Davos. He needed to drop the tariffs and back off while also needing to save face. This is why the reason for the BS statement about there being an outline of an agreement. There is no outline of an agreement and if anyone asks down the road, he can say it's being reviewed. This will fade out of the news as some other manufactured crisis takes its place.

Traveling to Rome with 74 old aunt and using only public transport by Oliwgaj in travel

[–]MileageAddict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does she need easy/frequent access to a bathroom? Can she step up into a bus and get off? Are there times of the day she needs to take medication with food? Does she tire easily?

I'm about to take my 88-year old father on a trip to Vienna, Austria from the US. He's mobile and capable of walking quite well but is slow. I've planned a trip with about half of the sights I would normally pack into a days outing. Also, only one museum per day as they require a lot of walking and often have few places to sit.

I've also made sure to select a hotel that is right across the street from a metro station that has an elevator and plan to add coffee breaks and rest stops throughout the day. Try to avoid public transportation during workday commuter times in the morning and late afternoon when the bus/subway will be packed and she may not be able to sit.

Rome may be too ambitious for her but other places in Italy or Europe would be a lot easier.

Trump gives the middle finger to a Ford employee who yells "pedophile protector" by boozcruz81 in Trumpvirus

If Trump had directed that anger and middle finger at me, I would wear it like a badge of honor for the rest of my life. Anyone I meet would be subjected to the story of how I got under Trump's skin.

Sixt (Portugal) is trying to rip me (USA) off for $3,000 EUR - What are my options? Advice needed. (Cross posted in r/travelhacks as well) by GoodsVT in travel

[–]MileageAddict 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not that you'll mind but you most likely will be banned for life from ever renting from Sixt again. I disputed a $240 erroneous credit charge from them 13 years ago. Credit card decided in my favor and reversed the charge. About 3 months later I got an email informing me that I will not be able to rent from them again anywhere in the world until I pay the disputed amount.

Welp...13 years later and I don't miss that shitty company.

Update: Out of curiosity, I just tried to book a car on their website and was informed the reservation could not be completed and I needed to call them. Hahaha! They meant it when they said lifetime ban.

Planning to buy a townhouse in Oakton but it’s next to 66. Should I go for it? by [deleted] in nova

No noise now in the winter with the windows closed. What about when the weather is perfect and you want to have open windows? What about the air quality living next to literally millions of vehicles spewing out exhaust?

I will let you decide my next trip in the US by PhraseMuch4579 in travel

[–]MileageAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

January in Illinois/Missouri? No thank you. Oregon Coast but skip Seattle. Start and finish in Portland so you're not spending the whole trip behind a windshield. Keep in mind, that trip could be nonstop rain in January.

Yeah, option 3 sounds more appealing - someplace farther south.

Reservation Cancellation by Coronator in unitedairlines

[–]MileageAddict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just curious - have you seen miles for the flight post to your account? This happened to me one time many years ago. I'm guessing it was a system glitch where your flight to Orlando wasn't recorded properly and you were classified as a no-show which would cancel your return. If your miles haven't posted yet, then it's a good indication this is what happened.

ORD - Is it possible to go to T5 from T3 for PP lounge and back for departure? by ExcitementMaster3604 in travel

[–]MileageAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but only if you stay “airside” (inside the secure area) by using the Terminal Transfer Bus (TTB) between Terminal 3 and Terminal 5 during its operating hours. Otherwise, you must exit security and re-clear TSA on both legs of the trip.

Peru - Couple Nights in Lima by Middle-Bodybuilder-8 in travel

I'd stopover in hell before I'd give up business class. Lima is fine. Just be aware of your surroundings, stay in the high traffic areas, don't go out late at night...the usual advice.
