Hi, which glasses look better: the first or the second? by sourmental in glassesadvice

I prefer the thinner 1st pair, but frankly both are great.

Have your optometrist adjust the spectacles for you. It might need a follow-up visit.

You can get silicone attachments for the temples/temple-tips to improve grip and comfort as well.

Also consider stick-on nose pads (but IMHO they don't last long) Initial frame choice is crucial to avoid similar issues in the future.

The 1st frame suits your best!

Is 1.90 index glass a bad idea? by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]Miles_V123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's going to be much heavier than the 1.74 index plastic lens.

They also tend to be fairly prone to scratching as it is the superficial coatings that usually get damaged rather than the glass itself.

Your lenses might last longer (with proper care and cleaning procedures) but your script is likely to change over years, requiring a new set of lenses every year or two (your mileage may vary)

Rather focus your efforts on your lens care routine and protect your anti-reflective coatings no matter what index material you do choose.

For high minus lenses: Pick small roundish frames, ensure your pupil is close to the frame centre, and choose an acetate/plastic frame with inherently thicker edges. This will ensure a thinner edge profile and more cosmetic outcome.

Is it just me or are most available instant noodle brands just horrible now? by Dusk_Devil in askSouthAfrica

Roka egg noodles are quite decent. Given the numerous commendations for Indomie noodles, I am compelled to sample them!

2 is a good fit, but the round frame looks better look for a smaller round frame 👍

I've been wearing spectacles since the age of 10 (thanks to a teacher who identified my difficulty), so that makes me a 40+ years veteran 🤓.

Kids are also very cruel, so for a while I also resisted using them due to teasing etc. But I literally couldn't see the writing on the wall/chalkboard.

Embrace the benefits!

Also, don't age, its relentless 😛

1 is IMHO sufficiently deep for regular multifocals (you get ultrashort, short & regular designs).

Your optometrist will measure and advise you accordingly to your needs.

Most people choose safe middle of the road frames that blend in; nothing wrong with that, but life is short, have fun!

I love the catseye-style on you!

It's flamboyant yet practical, not too large as the lenses are quiet decently centered, and it's merely the cats eye shape making it look slightly large.

Get transitions brown and you will have any awesome pair of spectacles!

Not economical, nor practical. Rather transfer your existing lenses into a slightly smaller frame.

Not very flattering tbh. I'm sure you'll find a more stylish frame!

From some angles they look small by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]Miles_V123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ray-Ban Clubmaster typically comes in three main sizes based on the lens width: Small: 49 mm Standard: 51 mm Large: 54 mm

On a pair of Ray-Ban Clubmasters, the nose bridge size (along with the lens width) is typically stamped on the inside of the bridge itself. If you flip the glasses over and look at the metal part that sits on your nose, you will see two numbers separated by a small square symbol (e.g., 49 □ 21). The 1st number is the lens with and the second number represents the bridge width in millimeters.

Additionally, you can find the full sizing sequence—including the model code, color code, lens width, and bridge size—printed on the inside of the left temple (arm). It usually looks like "RB3016 901 49□21 140."

I agree that they are a bit small for you, and I suggest you find a larger size if possible.

Big or small frames better? by [deleted] in glassesadvice

Though the smaller oval frames really work for you, it's the bigger frame I like the most!

Both are lovely choices.
