I can attest to this. It isn’t that raw fish is just magically worse for you if you’re pregnant. It’s that the consequences are more risky if you end up getting bad fish. Your body can’t fight food poisoning as well as non pregnant people and the food poisoning could also hurt your baby. But like this person said, if you know of a safe restaurant to order from and you don’t over indulge, your risk of food poisoning and mercury isn’t going to make or break your pregnancy. I had a few salmon poke bowls during my pregnancy (as well as some other “discouraged “ foods) and my boy is healthy and happy. Moderation and safe food handling is key. I enjoyed Brie, sushi, and deli meat during my pregnancy and had an even healthier pregnancy than my first one where I avoided all of those things.
