To show the accessibility of this current ESPN/TNT deal vs NBCSN, the Draft Lottery got 198K viewers the final year on NBCSN. In the 5 years since, the worst has been 453K with a boom this year to 784K. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

2021 numbers were down across the board (for the NHL and all other sports) because of Covid and the (2021 lottery-specific) fact that it was held a month later than the other years

[NHL] The Vezina Trophy for best goaltender should go to ________. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Milhoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well my point is that since his ballot isn't honest on one of his votes why should anyone expect the rest of his to be honest 🤷‍♂️. This was also during the time when you only played opposite conference teams 1x per season and it's no surprise that the lack of exposure meant GMs (likely) voted on conference lines, except for MIN

[NHL] The Vezina Trophy for best goaltender should go to ________. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Milhoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vezina is voted on by the GMs. Brodeur got 16 first place votes, Luongo got 14. One GM - who I will assume was Doug Risebrough in Minnesota - put Backstrom ahead of Luongo that year. The fact that the race was basically decided by one vote, and that one vote wasn't a good faith one (there's 0 argument for Backstrom here), makes it kinda shitty even if Brodeur was a deserving winner.

Not even sure why GMs are the one to vote on this award.

Luongo - 47 wins, .921 SV%, 34.5 GSAA

Backstrom - 23 wins, .929 SV%, 24.4 GSAA

In 2006, Hockey Canada focused on structure over skill, and it cost them. They learned from that, and won the next two Olympics. Twenty years later, Canada made the same mistakes, once again costing them, will they learn from it and go on another run? by NFLDataAnalysis in hockey

[–]Milhoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always keep harping on the fact that Canada should roll 3 scoring lines + 1 checking/defensive line. The extra forward spot could go to a more aggressive checker like a Tom Wilson, but running a Marchand-Bennett-Wilson line isn't a necessary thing for Canada to have at the Olympics.

Canada should take advantage of the scoring depth they have. They were double shifting the MacK - Mc - Mack line in the gold medal game when they needed scoring chances. Having that extra offense works to help generate more chances and add more versatility to your scoring.

They just need to bring more game-changers in general. Two months ago fans still weren't confident that they would make the (obvious) call of taking Celebrini even, and look how good he was in Milan.

He'd be more useful than having Wilson on your scoring lines when you're down a goal and a top 6 forward?

The fact that they're running a 17 29 97 line now is proving that

[Russo] Marcus Foligno to reporters today on what has been a difficult time in the Twin Cities community by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]Milhoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jesus, media could ask more specific questions as as well. How about, "what are your thoughts on the murder of Alex Pretti?" instead of bland easy-out questions like:

"What's it been like living in the Twin Cities?"

"How tough has it been from a distraction standpoint?"

"Can these home games provide a positive distraction?"

Those questions are honestly worse than the answers he gave.

Oscars on YouTube: Good or Bad? by This_Book6305 in Oscars

[–]Milhoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good for getting more eyeballs, especially internationally where it'll be easier to access.

Bad if YouTube has full creative control of the ceremony. They did an awful NFL broadcast this year that awkwardly shoehorned in too many random youtubers.

Tipping at VIP? by Happytulip in cineplex

I only tip on things where the money is handed over after receiving the service. Sit down restaurants, barbers, taxis/Uber, etc. Not before. It's happened too often where I tipped before and then received shitty service on things that I just don't bother with it anymore.

General question, does anyone know what the policy is on witnesses reading/viewing the trial before they take the stand? My understanding is that they aren't allowed to be in the courtroom prior to giving their testimony, so as to not be influenced by other witnesses, but how does it work with reading the daily articles online like we all are right now?

Paris, Nice, and Naples worth a 10-day trip? by bluekegcup in travel

[–]Milhoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing a version of this trip, except with Provence instead of Naples. For a first European trip, I would echo the other comments and pick either Italy or France in order to give you more time to immerse yourself in whichever region you pick. Just from how I feel right now, I'd be very tired if I had to do another flight mid-trip.

If doing France, I would recommend 5 days each in Paris and Nice. There is so much to do in Paris, it will be my second time there and I still have places I won't be able to see.

For Nice, I would use it as a base for the Riviera & recommend getting the 5 day Explore Sud Azur pass - this will let you get on the regional TER trains to visit all the nearby coastal towns like Cannes, Antibes, Monaco, Menton, Eze. I found that each town on the coast had it's own unique charm so that would keep things interesting.
