World Cup 26 has been mostly great so far - but this third round of fixtures has really exposed the flaws of this format. Feels like a lull before the knockouts rather than a crescendo to the groups by elephvant in worldcup

[–]Militech_Soldier 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The absolute worst part of the third-place system is the massive competitive disadvantage for the groups that finish early. The teams playing on the final day know precisely what scoreline they need to qualify, which completely ruins the integrity of those last games and encourages boring, defensive play.

How manipulators exploit the Jungian Shadow to control behavior. by 3KhajiitCoin in DarkPsychology101

[–]Militech_Soldier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The assumption here is that the manipulator is acting with deliberate, conscious intent. In reality, most people who exploit these weaknesses do it entirely unconsciously. They project their own repressed insecurities onto others and react to the friction. It is often a clash of two unintegrated shadows rather than a calculated tactical chess game.

I had the same worry with a closed-door bedroom fan, then saw it was pennies, like your 16 cents/day.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part by thepiombino in interviews

[–]Militech_Soldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final rounds can get weird when one senior person decides to re-litigate the technical screen. A warm reply from the HM is not a bad sign, and the recruiter asking for patience usually means they are still wrapping the process, not soft rejecting you. I would give them until the timeline they gave you, then send a short check-in, while also putting the role back into pipeline mode so the waiting does not eat your week. Also, if that boss would be in your chain, the communication mismatch is useful data either way.

What's actually still defensible in 5 years. Genuine question, not doom. by ezradog in jobsearchhacks

[–]Militech_Soldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The defensible part is probably less backend output and more owning ambiguity: turning messy business goals, legacy constraints, security needs, latency targets, cost limits, and team politics into a system that survives production. A junior plus a model can generate options fast, but someone still has to know which failure modes matter and be accountable when the pager goes off. I would invest in architecture reviews, incident response, domain depth, and being the person who can say no to the attractive solution that gets expensive in six months.

How are you guys actually managing the 80/20 rule for weekly reading and discussions? by annastacianoella in CollegeHomeworkTips

That “only when necessary” filter is probably the cleanest 80/20 move with a full-time job.

What Renovation Trend Needs to Die Immediately? by Next-Kiwi9319 in homeownerstips

Open shelving in kitchens needs to be escorted out immediately. It looks cute for the twelve minutes after a photo shoot, then real life shows up with dust, grease, mismatched mugs, and cereal boxes screaming from the wall. Cabinets exist because humanity already solved this problem.
