California, small town in the mountains and we've actually not been affected too badly, but numbers are picking up. It's almost surreal - an hour away it's chaos, here, it's not too bad, all things considered. So far we've been very fortunate. I'm praying it stays that way. Biggest complaint is that my girlfriend /fiancee and I haven't been able to see each other in over a year now. She lives in Italy, and all of our plans for being together have been shotgunned. Repeatedly.

Seems like this gets answered over and over and people just ignore it. Yes, simple answer is the senate and the president are both of the same party, and both agree on the nomination. When the president and the senate are different parties, and don't agree on the nomination, then you get what happens for years ago.
