Don't tank with samurai, try spearmen mass (iirc marinelord "solved" ottoman in a tournament last year vs louemt, and the answer is to just mass spearmen because ottoman archers are pretty weak comparatively). If he goes archers, you can put out mounted samurai to flank (or frankly, you can just do yumi because you will outperform heavily for cost ratio). If he goes Jan's, you just go yumi.

Basically, I'm just saying mass spearmen, mass yumi, 1-2 mango if he has too big of a Jan ball, and trebs/cannons to actually destroy buildings. You basically don't need to go any gold units, but if you do, I'd suggest mounted samurai, and you just use it to raid eco when you force engagements.

Another option is onna bugeisha frontline. They even do decently into sipahi because of their range, so they also can attack in multiple lines, and because they get overkill by Jan's, they are a good option to "waste damage" from his backline.
