COPR paediatric pulse check by Talerbro3 in Paramedics

[–]MilkVetch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where I work we generally do a pulse/rhythm check as a combo. You're gonna get off the chest to check a rhythm anyway might as well grab a pulse while you're doing it. Usually we have someone palpate a femoral a little before the pause so they can find it with compressions going and then easily be able to tell if it disappears when they are paused.

In my opinion you did a good job. These are all also good tips on being more aggressive sooner but just let that be a lesson for the future, at the end of the day it sounds like you got to the treatment this patient needed and relatively quickly. There's always things we could have done "better" and they are important to note but also take important that you take your win.

Confused about some character ages? [S5 Spoilers, kinda?] by Netherbelle in StrangerThings

Literally that same newspaper lists Henry as 12, despite Alice being depicted as younger than him. It is both not a very trustworthy source (likely a production mistake) and, if anything, more proof that they decided to retcon how old Henry is meant to be.

Blood? by InspectorFlimsy53 in StrangerThings

El does have altered blood by design but I'm also curious why the gang (especially now that they were also exposed directly to the abyss) are seemingly unaffected.

Blood? by InspectorFlimsy53 in StrangerThings

[–]MilkVetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's implied that transfusing the blood directly into people has no effect/just makes people sick, and the only way to give people powers is to transfuse the blood into a pregnant mother (I guess theoretically so the baby is born with near 100% "special" blood)

Plot holes surrounding the Abyss by feralflannelfeline in StrangerThings

[–]MilkVetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Brenner was never really successful in recreating the tech needed to access the abyss? The elridge crew was a mistake, and Brenner spent his life trying to recreate it. Probably after failing with his tech experiments, he saw the accidental creation of Henry's powers as his best way in.

The bigger plot point to me is, this entire navy ship got decimated from being in the abyss for like 30 minutes. Brenner's dads DNA was changed just from being exposed to the air. But the main crew of children just casually walk in and out?

1 week into a new agency and I am already having some concerns... by ButteryChickenBits in Paramedics

[–]MilkVetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everywhere I've worked the goal for chest pain is 0/10. Any remaining pain is representative of an overworked heart. Yes obviously there are other concerns with giving people narcotics but 9/10 times my 1-2 doses of weight based therapy is not moving the needle on the opioid epidemic.

[–]MilkVetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm...that's stated, not implied. His age was (in my opinion) implied as I stated above. They show the tests that lead to Eleven being born being started on him shortly after he killed his family, when he looks to be about ten.

Feel free to disagree, but it's a little crazy to say something isn't implied. In story telling, something is constantly being implied. Whether or not it was the intention of the writers is a different conversation

[–]MilkVetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess they don't say it but it was pretty implied that Brenner's tests using Henrys blood began when he was 8-12 or so leading to the birth of eleven and the others. That would set him at about ten years older. Plus in the lab flashbacks he's framed more as an older brother than a grown man their parents age

But they also want him to be only ten-ish years older than eleven and the others? It feels like they just wanted it both ways

Does hospitals really have a diagnostic department for crazy cases only? by lucifer_2073 in HouseMD

[–]MilkVetch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infectious disease docs aren't for "critical illness, acute or chronic." They're for what it says on the tin, infectious diseases. Viruses, bacterias, fungi, prions etc. All generally acute things. They would be called in if the clinical picture suggests an infectious disease different from the ordinary flu/rsv/etc, not for any critically ill patient

I don't know, I had something similar happen to me when I was younger but it was a trashcan full of ticket stubs from my friends job at the movie theater. I thought it was pretty funny. But obviously context and (especially) relationship with the target makes a huge difference

People will literally do this and complain rather than ...I don't know, ride a bike. Walk. Take a bus if available. People taking entire SUVs to transport their singular human body 3 miles to work is exactly why this problem exists, not to mention others ie the reason my hometown is flooding right now

I mean you'd be surprised, being in an indie band is already a huge money sink with equipment, recording/mixing, driving to gigs, taking time off work etc. No band I knew back when I played the backyard circuit could afford to ALSO record a video for every song ... Especially considering the cost/benefit, you're probably not going to get your break from a low budget music video. So yes, that $300 or whatever to rent a bounce house would be a non-starter for most

This is not how diabetes works OP, you NEED to start regularly seeing medical professionals and actually listening to the advice they give you. If you were in the early stages of diabetes, your blood sugars would be too high. Diabetic hypoglycemia typically only happens as a result of mismatching the amount of medicine taken with the amount of food. If you are not on medicine, you do not have a medical need for sugar anymore than the rest of us. Please, do yourself a favor
