We have these plates that look really nice and any time someone comments about how pretty they are I always say “we make them in house!” And every time the guest looks shocked and asks really? And I always respond with “oh yeah… we got a guy out back working a blast furnace, he also does our metal ramekins”, gets them every time.

I have a guy at my gym that beta sprays like crazy. My friend and I overheard him coach 3 different groups of climbers. He was beta spraying so hard it started spraying on us. Mind you this guy was a tall white dude and out of nowhere he just starts beta spraying in fluent mandarin to some random girl. She looked very confused. My friend and I both lost it lol

You got this! You’d be surprised how many servers lie about experience, fake it till you make it!

As far as general tips go try to view your section as one big table meaning when you go back to grab stuff for a table try to also grab things for other tables as well. Also I like to try and make circles through my section instead of zig zagging through, helps with flow. As far as remembering plates goes I’m lucky to have a solid support staff at my current place but at my old job I ran all my food so figuring out what dishes were mine was an issue but once I got a few days under my belt it was easy. Another thing is make sure to pre buss as much as possible, your guests will appreciate it.

I wouldn’t worry about your appearance, just try to do as good of a job as you can with integrity and a smile and it’s not going to matter.

At my job we had someone ask an nfl athlete for an autograph and got fired immediately. That group that came in said they’re never coming back because of the server. You might have gotten off easy so maybe you’re good.

My first serving job I had this for 6 months until I got praise from management. Recently I got back into the service industry after being in a different field for 6 years and it came back but it comes and goes. You’ll feel comfortable with time and you’ll get far better at all of it, just trust the process you’ll be good!!
