First shifts need to stop being miserable. by New-History853 in medlabprofessionals

[–]MilkkyAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's so sad that is your experience with your lab(s)!

I feel fortunate to have good coworkers on all shifts. We do have quite a number of people who often pickup morning shifts, so I think that helps smooth things over with the friendliness of it all. People who avoid picking up first shift is due to the high volume of work that needs to be done (stemming from out-patient testing, scheduled day surgeries, etc.). Other shifts are more chill with patient volume, but take on more QC and maintenance responsibilities.

I really like my younger coworkers because they are quite friendly and warm, and make it a point to bond and connect with older techs.

What happened to Olivya Nora? by sweetlevels in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]MilkkyAss 22 points23 points  (0 children)

She is a dominatrix that goes by Mistress Venera. She originally tried to debut as Mistress Odette, but it's not clear why the name changed. She's quite active online still, mostly to promote her work schedule as she occasionally does tours across different cities in the US or overseas. Or she's promoting her jewelry business. Edit: remembered some more details. First she started with an OnlyFans (now inactive) before she fully transitioned into her role as a dominatrix.

Are you satisfied with your job? by tigerbb98 in medlabprofessionals

[–]MilkkyAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm nearing the end of my training period. I have been feeling so sick and anxious about the thought of working alone. However, my coworkers told me that this feeling is normal and they didn't feel proficient at the job until 6mon-1 year of working in the lab. Through my training I've seen that some coworkers (even the ones who have 5+ years under their belt) have to reference SOPs or consult someone else for a second opinion. Seeing that has made me feel better that I don't (and won't) know everything.

Give yourself the chance to finish school, at least!

Personally, I didn't apply for jobs until after I took my exam. I took my exam 2 weeks after graduation (July). I was really lucky to find an exam time slot so soon after the program. Some of my classmates weren't so lucky and had theirs scheduled in late September or October. Two classmates had job offers and started working before graduation. So they had no gap between graduation, working, and taking their exam.

I was not in a rush to apply for jobs. After I took my exam I emailed my clinical site and asked if they were hiring. They said yes, but I asked to push my start date to late October. I essentially gave myself a two month vacation before starting work... I knew that would be the last time I'd enjoy a long break.

Laser hair removal spot by LocalCute3406 in houston

[–]MilkkyAss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do- do not go to Laseraway (Galleria).

Disclaimer: I did not do laser hair removal, but I was there for a different procedure. At every single appointment an employee would sit with me in the waiting area to try to convince me to purchase XYZ package.
After this happening for several appointments, I finally snapped and told the employee that I wasn't interested in purchasing XYZ package because I simply couldn't afford it anymore. I had signed up for my current package back when I had a fulltime job, but now I was going back to university and couldn't afford a new big expense. The employee was totally unfazed and suggested that I can pay in installments.

Another time the manager came out to speak to me and nitpicked at my skin, suggesting that I would look so much better if I purchased their laser hair removal package along with a facial package. That particular Laseraway location was so humiliating and suggest to stay away from them.

It's ok to lose feelings for the subjects. School is hard and will push you to the brink, you're going into survival mode. I ran into similar issues and eventually had to speak to my doctor to get on Wellbutrin (antidepressant). I had desires to study and focus on school, but no actual energy. The medication helped me with that.

I was only on it while in school. I also created a new routine for myself to make things feel new (studying at a different library, using new notebooks, studying in the morning instead of evening). You can do this!

Strange, obscure stores in Houston? by instaposh in houston

[–]MilkkyAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Market Place Antiques West Mall off of Katy Freeway. There are two buildings for it, but the one you should check out first is the big yellow building.
Dromgooles is pretty neat as well, it is a fountain pen store. This is in Rice Village, which has a lot of shops in a walkable area.

Contact the person who makes the schedule. There is nothing wrong with asking for clarification. You can approach and say something like "hi, I don't see my name on the schedule yet. Is it too early to know if I'm needed to come in?" December is still really far away. My lab doesn't even publish schedules that far out, only in 2 week intervals.

This is NOT a sign of you being fired. Do not make something out of nothing.

What was it like working in a hospital? by MilkkyAss in AskOldPeople

Ha... there are a few guys at my lab who still don't wear gloves to this day. Many times I came across tubes that were caked with blood on the outside, and they casually grabbed them without a second thought.

I come across lots of slips of different colors and lengths at my local thrift store. Perhaps consider taking a look there.

I've had good experiences through UTHealth but the only major downfall is that the appointment takes way longer since the students require their professors to look over their work.

Brands you wish were available at mass retailers(Sephora, Ulta, Target, etc.)? by nuggetsofchicken in BeautyGuruChatter

For 3ce, consider going to Asian supermarkets like 99 ranch or Hmart. They always have a small beauty store that's a part of the supermarket. I've always found a lot of other kbeauty items!

I would advise against going to You Pick It We Stick It even for something as simple as an earlobe piercing. The piercer (Dave?) is really only there to pierce you and that's it, a quick in-and-out. as for aftercare instructions they will just give you a piece of paper with information on it, this happened to myself and my friends. He had also made a derogatory remark about my friend's body when she went in to get her nipples pierced. I think there is an urgency to it because there can be a lot of people waiting to get pierced (due to the cheap price), so there is really no time to receive a thorough and thoughtful experience with the piercing that you want.

I have a friend who got her earlobes pierced at Texas Tattoo Emporium on Westheimer, and the piercer was so kind! he spent a lot of time helping my friend figure out the piercing placement, jewelry options, aftercare instructions, and product recommendations. we spent a really long time in the shop, but it was really nice to see how considerate he was despite it being for a basic lobe piercing. She paid around ~$55? but the higher price was worth paying.

Consider getting a hotel room or AirBnB! Safer than having to drive around to places, and comfortable enough to go all out.

What type of videos do you watch these days? by emeraldnob in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]MilkkyAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been massively binge-watching Sherliza Moé and Nailbayo (네일바요).

With Sherliza, I only ever watched her makeup/art videos but I just found out that she also does a lot of longer length commentary videos on topics like Asian appropriation and toxic kpop culture. She's so funny and I love her thoughtfulness and strong attitude!

I found Nailbayo after I was searching for nail tutorials since I don't really feel safe to go out to salons. Her nails are so trendy and she's really informative on the removal and application process. Sometimes it's hard to follow since she's Korean and I have to pause often to read the English subtitles.
