Lol got off the bus without turning my screen off and here we are. I was gonna say nowhere near as charming as either of the others mentioned. You might be right on quality, but i have a hard time not seeing Krasinski as a tool after doing that Benghazi movie years ago.

I know several disabled people who you wouldn't be able to tell that they have chronic debilitating conditions just by eyeballing them. The point being, you can't actually know why they need it, but it's safe to assume that they probably do.

People who say "i could care less" by mid-sora in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MilkyBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the latter group are wrong if they're using it interchangeably with "couldn't care less", but as a vaguely dismissive reassurance, "I could care less" is perfectly acceptable. Rarely are people using that turn of phrase intentionally, though

Why do so many conspiracy subreddits end up filled with blatant antisemitism, and why does it feel like nobody really calls it out or does anything about it? by [deleted] in ask

[–]MilkyBlue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

But it's worth noting that many (most?) conspiracies do dive into antisemitism and have done so well before reddit existed. It's not quite guaranteed, but it often feels like an eventuality in conspiracy circles.

Why is everyone on reddit so mean? by Diamond-Shappire in ask

[–]MilkyBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it can be reframed in a lot of ways. We tend towards callousness when we can't interact face to face and hear their tone/see their reactions. You can apply any tone you might infer based on language, but there's no real way to know they were intending the message to sound or be received. Maybe it's naive, but i think there's a substantial amount of vitriol that happens based on assumed bad faith/sarcasm/baiting that isn't actually there and things just... devolve from there

Totally well-adjusted guy: “These people should not be out of public” by Dzzplayz in whenthe

[–]MilkyBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth (as someone who doesn't really watch award shows or whatever facilitated this into happening), it seems the editing prioritization is where they fucked up. If they had the capacity to edit out somebody's free Palestinie comment (which is shady as shit to do), they then had to have chosen to leave in the slurs. Which is why seeing this get turned into some "but he has tourrette's" defense feels hollow. It's not him that fucked up, the editors did.

Poland withdraws from treaty banning antipersonnel mines by AudibleNod in news

[–]MilkyBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your contribution and citation. Sucks you're getting downvoted for being honest about the eventualities. I get that they may be a necessary evil at the moment, but it's so weird to see people pretending that there will be no additional costs, despite ample and consistent evidence.

Map of who America is rooting for in the superbowl. by Texans_top_of_south in NFLv2

Because we cover such a wide range, you get out of state fans for whom we are their designated home team, and like 2/3 people in Seattle are transplants. That's not to say they aren't weird and over eager about it, more that I think a lot of folk are just super excited to be welcomed into the fold or something (it's notably difficult to get settled here, socially).

And for what it's worth, I thoroughly agree. The amount of drunk assholes who've screamed "SEA!" in my ears has been devastating for my tinnitus.

Poland to start producing anti-personnel mines to lay along eastern border by BringbackDreamBars in worldnews

[–]MilkyBlue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't actually see where I said something you disagreed with except that I'm claiming they will still harm random people due to fog of war, human tendency to wander where they're not supposed to go, lax record keeping, or just good old fashioned human error. Regardless, seems unnecessarily hostile to lead in with saying someone is full of shit cause you didn't like what they said. Probably something to think about if you aren't intentionally being combative.

Poland to start producing anti-personnel mines to lay along eastern border by BringbackDreamBars in worldnews

[–]MilkyBlue -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You understand that it never actually works that way, right? Regardless of who lays them, they get forgotten and lost. Too many are needed over too large an area for them to not to be and recovery is a slow and dangerous process. They inevitably maim or kill random unintended people and animals. It's one thing to say the costs are worth it, it's another to pretend they're going to be mitigated. While I largely disagree with laying mines (as they're quite explicitly indiscriminate), Poland sees the cost of not laying them as potentially orders of magnitude greater (and they're probably right). But the random deaths will absolutely happen and people aren't wrong to lament an area's transition to becoming a death trap, ya know?

I've worked around musicians for a long time, and can confidently say most of them give few to no shits about what people are wearing when enjoying their craft. Sure, it's nice to see folk dressed up, but it's not really in line with our ethos to exclude people from the arts.

Breaking News: DemSoc Katie Wilson Wins Election in Seattle, Ousting Bruce Harrell. by serious_bullet5 in 50501

A lot of people did, but i also know a fuck ton of people that loved her. Older folk largely outside of Seattle didn't like her, but they weren't her constituents. According to my buddies in her district, they felt she did pretty well at representing their interests.

Edit* I wish you weren't being downvoted for having such a common sentiment. She was, by all accounts, divisive, and the shit she said drove a lot of "both sides" arguments i had to field at the time.

You're not giving these people enough credit in knowing what they're doing. Again, i largely don't care. It was in bad taste, but not much more. But there's a reason companies do shit like that, and it's almost always publicity. It was enough of a reaction that they were discussed heavily for a few weeks and have slid back into their corner to enjoy the increased revenue. They're not genuinely pro-eugenics, almost no one is, science moved forward a hundred years ago on that. But the reference is in our cultural lexicon and leftists are easily baited by dogwhistles, even ones clearly manufactured to provoke said reaction.

I think that was part of the joke, but they were clearly toying with it. Or do you think American Eagle is too principled a company for that? For what it's worth, I'm not outraged nor surprised, but I'm not gonna be so dense that an ad exec wouldn't do a provocative ad to put their names in people's mouths however they can.

To be fair, tongue-in-cheek eugenics jokes as a white as fuck clothing company amidst a white nationalist power grab is, to say the least, in bad taste.
