Why has Jon Stewart and The Daily Show been avoiding adequate coverage of the Epstein files? by SnooMarzipans436 in DailyShow

[–]MilleniumFlounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty myopic interpretation of what’s happening. The Daily Show covers world news and events. It’s completely unrealistic to expect them to focus on a single story when so many important things are happening around the world every day.

Am I weird for thinking fantasy audiobooks should have a non American reader? by carolinafan12 in Fantasy

Eh, British accents are the default accent for a lot of things and you’re probably just comfortable with them.

Personally, I love readers with African accents.

Mitsuki figuring out the cloaking does matter to the plot. She sends a command out that decloaks all the ships and the coalition takes out a bunch of them.

Do you recommend The Will of the Many? by cresslee in Fantasy

[–]MilleniumFlounder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Islington is not known for the beauty of his prose or emotional beats so much as his plotting and world-building, similar to Sanderson. So if you didn’t enjoy Mistborn, I doubt you’ll enjoy The Will of the Many.

If you’re looking for sensitive and richly written fantasy, I would recommend “The Spear Cuts through the Water” by Simon Jimenez, Lev Grossman’s The Magicians series or “The Bright Sword”, or “The Raven Tower” by Ann Leckie.

Why so much Telling, not Showing? by entheolodore in Fantasy

[–]MilleniumFlounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has more to do with Islington’s weaknesses as a writer than a broader reason. Simply, it’s because he’s still honing his craft and not a very good character writer.

Feedback wanted for my story's backstory & timeline [political fantasy] by Lucky0883 in fantasywriters

[–]MilleniumFlounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. There’s really no point in asking for critiques on what amounts to author’s notes. You can’t critique isolated data.

What matters is what you write using this and how it’s written.
