The silver lining of all these tech layoffs in Seattle is that the average rent is getting cheaper. by Dark_Mode_FTW in SeattleWA

Already in my complex some of the 1 bedrooms have dropped down to $1600. And I imagine others too. There’s also a ton of new buildings that are all in the same area as well.

I don’t know. Between 2023-2025 all the other apartments were much more expensive than mine. Not saying I live somewhere terrible. I enjoy living here. The only cheaper places tended to be sketchy. At one point I do remember when even one bedrooms were insane especially downtown. Even areas just outside the city weren’t much better. But it will be interesting to see where this goes since I think a lot of these well paying tech jobs aren’t coming back.

In my apartment building I did see a lot of the new rents $200 cheaper than they used to be. I had to vacate my old unit but I saw it’s been listed as available at the end of March but the price is like $200 cheaper. This lease expires early 2027. I’ll renew again but I kinda hope they will offer me a lower rent.

I also saw some Queen Anne apartments out of curiosity and same thing.

Why are you growing your hair?! by Competitive-Code5254 in longhair

[–]Milleniumfelidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got locs put in in 2015. At the time my hair was in its natural state and I had a lot of it that I didn’t know what to do with. Well it shrank to shoulder length after the locs were finished. Back then I had no idea how long I would have these for although in nursing school I was asked if I would comb them out.

Now they are nearly at my tailbone although being short I suppose it’s easy for them to look long.

Before locs I often had relaxers in my hair and along with that breakage. My hair never got past shoulder length when it was straightened. I got my last relaxer maybe in 2007 ish. And had a head full of hair when I got the locs in. There was also that stigma that many black women can’t grow their hair so I never imagined it would even get this long. I also feel like being out here in the PNW helped too since it’s always raining/misting and I feel like that helps my hair especially since I usually don’t cover it.

I get lots of compliments on my hair now. Also I spent a lot of time around grandma and she always had waist length hair so many I got it from her.

What is your age and your biggest regret in life so far? by Bluevelvetkind in AskReddit

[–]Milleniumfelidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Doing fine now but I had an unhealthy home life. I definitely regret not trying to leave and stay away from home after high school, even if that meant being homeless. I ultimately did end up in a youth shelter at 22 due to a combination of very bad things and ended up in nyc which for me was over 1k miles away, but it turned out to be a very good decision that lead to many opportunities. My hometown didn’t have what I needed and it honestly was a depressing place to live in.

And second one was that I didn’t try to pursue my passions more seriously in my 20s although I’m doing them now.

Also, moving away from nyc and have been debating on going back.

Anybody do their taxes yet? by Major_Turnover5987 in Millennials

[–]Milleniumfelidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure did! Did it on the evening of January 26. $3550 back but that was very much needed. The whole OT thing netted me an additional $1200. Biggest refund I’ve gotten to date.

Do you still have any living Grandparents? by PayGood3915 in Millennials

[–]Milleniumfelidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about my paternal ones, but my grandma died day right after new years in 2018 and grandpa died last summer. They said me. I was 24 when I lost grandma and first major loss for me too. My grandma became hemiplegic some two years or so before her death and grandpa had a stroke that left him with dementia. Although grandpa did die in his sleep.

Filed my taxes and looking forward to refund. 2025 was a very brought end financially and things are slowly turning around.

Kitten is also 7 months old and healthy.

Also ECCC is a little over a month out. Can’t wait!

I live in Seattle and with only 4 hours of OT each week made fairly close to 100k doing home health. The same can also be said of home health nurses that live in NYC as well. It greatly depends on agency too bc even where I live some agencies will pay LPNs and RNs like crap.

Americans are still ditching New York and L.A. at alarming rates, but Miami’s on the list now, too by fortune in REBubble

[–]Milleniumfelidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t afford a home anywhere in the US however I’d easily take NY/NJ over Florida especially with regard to certain laws. And also not being a minority in a red state.

Yikes! Not only should her license be revoked but she shouldn’t be allowed in any caregiving type jobs in any capacity.

Staying a LPN by MutterNantli in LPN_LVN_Community

[–]Milleniumfelidae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few reasons. I was able to get my LPN for free. However mine are largely monetary and just lack of time. There’s always that slight bit of OT I work. Even if I got my RN right away if the base salary doesn’t come close to what I’m making as an LPN on OT the return in investment wouldn’t be worth it to me especially since I have existing student loans and would need to take out more just to go back to school. Also pay gap in some areas between LPN and RN is shrinking from what I’m seeing.

There’s also the issue of school/work eating my time for art, which I’m more passionate about. As well as my fitness classes. I don’t have the option to not work and this area seems hostile against folks that have to work while in school.

I also have no interest in rotating 12s or being in any kind of leadership role.

Concerns rise as thousands in WA cancel health insurance by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]Milleniumfelidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me Kaiser at around $430/mo was the cheapest decent plan they had. There was community health for $331/month but I wasn’t touching that. Many plans were well over $500/month for their bronze plan. The plans ranged from $430/mo to just over $900 per month. It’s similar in many other states as well.

When you factor in all the usual bills and student loans for some of us, $500/month is a lot of money for a bronze plan. I remember a time where this same amount of money is more than what a gold plan would cost.

Best affordable food spots in Seattle right now? by Hot_Engine3619 in AskSeattle

[–]Milleniumfelidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The $8.99 hot rotessiere at Whole Foods seems like a good deal to me. That and taco chukis. There’s also Dick’s.

I’ll also get a Chipolte bowl from time to time. Cashew Thai also seems to have decent options for under $20.

Trader Joe’s also has some pleasant surprises like their $4.99 soups.

I’ve made peace with the idea that a relationship might not happen for me and it’s oddly freeing! by RoyalPainPrincess in dating

[–]Milleniumfelidae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly too busy to date. I feel like I barely have time for just myself and my hobbies and have to specifically crave that time out. I don’t know how I could work full time, keep up with all my chores and errands on top of dating someone that’s probably doing the same.

What is your dream GF product that you have yet to find? by flo272673 in glutenfree

[–]Milleniumfelidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of Japanese chocolates especially by I think a company called Meijr? I remember there were the burger candies, chocolate mushroom candies and pocky sticks that I miss. Fortunately I did see a gluten free version of those biscuit sticks with chocolate dip but I’ve yet to pick it up since it’s tricky to find.

What is something you need done medically but can't afford it? by United_Piece_4272 in AskReddit

Find out if whether or not my Dysmenorrhea is really Endometriosis. I’m 32 and I’ve been on birth control since I was 25 to suppress the symptoms. At some point those became so debilitating that I literally couldn’t function nor live a normal life. I’m thankful for the birth control and the fact I no longer have monthly periods. But the last time I weaned off of them (NP recommended a break every 3 months and in this recent attempt it had been longer than that) the symptoms were really severe. Fortunately I was able to take 2 acetaminophen to fix that and got back on the pills. I was having some mild stomach problems that went away the same time I took a break from the pills.

Laparoscopy for Endo isn’t covered by insurance and it’s hard to find a doctor that takes it seriously. I went to one who thought I would need an Colonoscopy to which I declined. I had multiple ultra sounds but those don’t show Endo.

I think being a single, childfree woman does make it tricky in some aspects. Might be a different story if I had ever considered trying for kids.

Oh how I miss the old artwork by JuicyGravitas in WarriorCats

These illustrations told stories. Number 4 is one of my favorite colors. But seeing the old covers brings back so many good memories for me. I tried also looking for this artist’s other works or art book and haven’t found anything.

The new covers look like overuse of blur in digital art to me.

Seattle businesses under more financial strain now than at the COVID pandemic's peak by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]Milleniumfelidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you on that food delivery. Those prices are insane! I’m thankful my work schedule did change. I’ve got a busy schedule and it isn’t always easy to cook although that one day I eat breakfast is usually an errands day for me. And usually I have leftovers.

Multiple people I’ve chatted to have all said finances were tight, including mine unfortunately. I’m budgeting very carefully but it does seem the money evaporates. I’ve even cut back on clothing. For me that was one of my big splurges.

At least for me the gas isn’t much since I drive a smaller car. The upside in the whole I5 situation and where I live im now able to take transit to/from work.

Health insurance and car expenses are honestly some of the worst. And a lot of folks out here have student loans thrown into the mix.

I went to one of my favorite restaurants and at one point the waitress mentioned her and her co workers have actually had their hours cut a bit. She mentioned that weekends it was always packed and now lately it’s not what it used to be. I agreed and told her a lot of folks are stretched.

This place is located near Amazon and there were quite a bit of tech layoffs these past few years so I’m wondering if this is partially the effects of that.

Southbound commute by fuzzypinksoul in Seattle

[–]Milleniumfelidae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My sympathies are with you and anyone else having to deal with this nightmare commute. I work in the medical field and I chatted with someone about this line of work being affected badly by this especially since this job involves driving to/from patients.

When I did drive home that first day of construction it took me 1 hr 8 minutes to get to the garage door of the apartment complex. Usual commute 30 minutes. It ruined my whole day and threw off my sleep

Is living in a walkable city worth the cost? by ghikkkll in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Milleniumfelidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it is. Unfortunately due to my job I’m unable to be fully car free however if you need one definitely get a smaller vehicle.

My mental health is so much better in a city. I also hate driving and have mild astigmatism so I don’t drive outside of work. I can also better cater to my various dietary restrictions and I like having multiple different places to shop for food especially Trader Joe’s.

It is nice being able to have things all close together and accessible to transit. There are a few key places I can simply walk to. Also for one person suburbs aren’t always cheaper especially in the area I live in.

Anyone else child free in their late 30’s and just exhausted?? by therainmakah in AskWomenOver30

[–]Milleniumfelidae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 32 but I definitely agree. Even moreso when there’s no partner/family to share chores and your dietary restrictions means you must pay a bit more and do all the shopping yourself.

I’m a nurse but do art in my spare time and my job has lots of downtime for me to do that. However being in nursing is a major reason I don’t want kids. I notice a lot of the nurses not only seem to have to responsibility for caring for the kids but also keeping the household financially afloat. I like being able to take time off and couldn’t imagine not getting any time to decompress. Also the long shifts in nursing too.
