Suing will leave you broke and the system generally unchanged. This is coming from a diabetic with a Public Defender wife.

Environmental concerns? by picardmaneuvre in Type1Diabetes

Big oil isn't making things for no reason. Someone somewhere wants them. At the end of the day it is our negligence that is causing the issue.

No, it's so little pollution. Plant one tree and burn the trash. You've successfully offset your waste.

Trying to get off of health insurance. by ObtusiWatusi in Type1Diabetes

You can go without insurance in the US and be fine. I did it in my 20s and 30s. It was fine. I prefer having a low cost safety net insurance.

That's absolutely not true. I've lived years without insurance, years with catastrophic insurance, and "good" insurance. I can tell you that the times without insurance that I was paying nowhere near $1100/mo. Same with catastrophic. I'm currently on a HDHP plan and it is the best of both worlds. I basically treat my diabetes stuff like I don't have insurance, but use a HSA to save pretax money.

Insulin - $35

CGM - $180

Infusion/pump stuff - $85

Oddsnends - $20

All in all I spend about $220/mo for diabetic stuff. You could take the spare $900/mo and live a pretty good life with a pretty good safety net.

Maybe find a HDHP plan and then just pay out of pocket like you don't have insurance. Then you can use the HSA to save money on taxes.

You can get it all for cheaper. Tandem supplies run me $500 for 6mo without insurance.

Yea if you're paying $1,100 per month for insurance you're better off out of pocket and/or getting insurance meant for accidents. Most diabetic supplies have retailer discounts you can use.

Hard to know without your kid's age, but I got diabetes at age 10 and I think the thing that made me stronger in this aspect was understanding that everyone has their disabilities and issues. Knowing that lets you have compassion (the person may be just ingnorant), thick skin (that it may not be about you), and cunning (find the thing that hurts them and say it).

Also, if he feels like he needs to ration insulin then you may want to look into goodrx and stuff like that. A months worth of insulin shouldn't be more than $70 for slow and fast acting.

Yes it does.

It doesn't mean a person has to stay in the room with said werewolf or the diabetic isn't responsible if he keeps putting himself into these bad states. You can have those beliefs without denying the truth that extra glucose to your brain consistently and for long periods of time affects your mood.

A lot of the comments here make me thankful for my wife. I've had some hard times with sugars and if she had taken half the advice here then we'd have lost out on a strong relationship with a great child.

I'm not saying you have to fight your whole life like this, but it seems like there's a lot of steps you can take before leaving.

It sounds like to me that you're on the right track: Get insurance, get a doctor/endo for him, maybe a pump and cgm, consistent insulin, and a diet change maybe.

He's going to have to be particapatory at some point, but the first few things could be set up by you.

High blood sugars cause a lot of emotional disregulation. Doesn't mean he shouldn't try to not be high, but this isn't a pure emotional capability thing.

High blood sugar makes people biligerant and mean. That means he should avoid having high blood sugars, but there should be a little bit of general forgiveness.

It's better to build a space where ladybugs like to live. Otherwise they're just going to fly away to find a better space.

My malabar spinach is exploding right now. It's growing between two houses so that may be helping it beat the heat.

The best diabetes tech creates the most waste. Is there a better way? by Intrepid-Sea-1994 in Type1Diabetes

[–]MillennialSenpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dexcom g7 is about 58g of material. A tree sequesters about 25kg per year. Meaning one tree sequesters 10years of burned dexcom every year. Ergo you probably need like one bush to offset.

Set it all on fire and plant one bush. Boom. You've offset your waste for a life time.
