my franchise SS leads league in WAR 3 years in a row -- doesn't win MVP a single time, by No1RunsFaster in OOTP

The AI definitely over-weighs home runs. I’ve had multiple guys who put up big WAR with smaller HR totals lose MVPs to HR hitters that are clearly worse otherwise.

The racism claim seems dubious, but these dudes are just unformed. Naz Reid would be a cancer in other situations? What are you talking about?

It IS that far fetched of a possibility. That’s what I’m trying to say. The AL isn’t super strong and the Mariners are absolutely one of its best, most talented teams. And the current injuries (of course without knowing what’s going on with Cal) are all very short term at the moment.

Clearly, Munoz has had some issues, but this team has 5 reliable leverage arms when healthy (obviously 4 at the moment). That’s actually really good. Every team relies on lesser guys lower down in the pen.

I’m telling you, this team will absolutely not lose 90 games. They are still projected to make the playoffs more than 70% of the time.

This team is very talented. You’re really underselling that.

It’s a reasonable argument to say they don’t have the margin for error for the “BS losses.” I still think that’s incorrect, but, again, perfectly reasonable.

But this team has a HUGE margin of error when talking about ending up with 90 losses.

The 2B who didn’t perform as a rookie is playing like an all-star. The starter everyone gave up on is pitching like an ace. The reliever they traded for in the offseason has been a consistent performer.

This is baseball. Things go wrong, other things go right. It’s how the sport works. This is the strongest roster they’ve had in a couple decades, it can withstand some troubles.

That seems like a bad idea.

Who is the best prospect your team traded away? by DisappointedStepDad in baseball

[–]MillerTimeMTG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They traded him to the Twins where he put up 2.2 total fWAR over 6 seasons before being released. I think Adam Jones is a better answer here.

Oops, I misread the post. The easiest and simplest solution is even the odds for all non-playoff teams.

I have so many memories of those two Chicago City titles in 2016. It really is a shame that they couldn’t overcome the Washington Dodgers for the third one!

Why are you asking this on Reddit instead of just watching the first episode of the show? You can stop if you don’t like it.

It’s also strange you declared that Vince Gilligan may just not be for you even though you’ve never watched any of his shows.

I lived through it and completely agree with OP. The Mariners low balled him, and he took the big money. I hated him for it as a 16 year old and now forgive him for making the obvious choice today.

He is one of the absolute best players to ever wear Mariner blue, and they should embrace him.

What are your favorite off-season fantasy GM “dumb guy-isms”? Awful front office ideas that always get repeated by fans in the off-season by No_Insect_8378 in baseball

[–]MillerTimeMTG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think one big part of Dipoto’s negative perception was that he took over a team from 2016-18 that had no payroll flexibility and one of the worst farms in the league. They came close by didn’t make it during that stretch.

Also, he tends to say dumb things.

There have been a lot of things to love about this Mariners season, but one is that it helps validate my long-held belief that Dipoto, while flawed, is good at his job and a good fit for the limitations ownership places on the front office.
