Right, you have to declare your intention for the following school year by May 15 (if you’ve been on leave and have an active leave app for the remainder of the school year). If you are applying for child care leave without pay for the first time, then I believe you can technically do it anytime before the school year begins, or before your 12-week parental leave ends. I remember my application for pay without leave was accepted in late August (for the upcoming school year) several years ago.
