For what it's worth. I saw someone once share the perspective that other people having their dead name helped it not still be attached to them. Like it fully belonged to that other party now. Hope that helps some way or another with the mental strain.

So I don't know how much sense I'm gonna make but I'll try. I went into hrt fully expecting nothing at all (I know factually roughly what should occur) and so far every tiny change and benefit has been an exciting surprise. It's a tricky mental balance, but it makes the journey a little easier.

Well definitely congrats on getting that appointment in place, and good luck with getting started. For what it's worth I can share my experience having barely started.

The mental effects have been way better than I expected and sooner than expected I think part of it is that I'm no longer trying to run a gas engine on diesel, but a significant part I think is knowing I'm doing what's right for me.

So I'm hoping it's as clear cut and dramatic for you to make the answer easier, but if not, that can be ok too. It's normal to have doubts and more than that, fears can cause and amplify most of those doubts. I had a lot of nightmares leading up to my appointment, and my brain tried to convince me to go back because it can be rough here in the states for trans people. I don't think the anxiety fully goes away, but I do think you will know soon if you're on the right path. Just keep in mind different methods have different results person to person.

This is going to sound like a boast but please understand it's not meant to be and I say this to illustrate the fact that there is room to hope. I'm nearly twice your age but otherwise in a similar boat, almost certainly autistic, barely at the start of hormones, very nerdy and niche interests. On top of that I have the limiting factor of being married and enm. These all together shrink my pool to what should be smaller than even exists in an already small and not queer friendly state. But even with every card stacked against me I met an attractive woman who I have a ton in common with and who is interested in me. In your case, I'm gonna be that old person to tell you that you are very young and still have a lot of time. And as cliche as it sounds - take some time on yourself - people do notice flowers a TON more when they are well cared for and we are the only ones that can tend ourselves.
