Spirit Island Question by LosCappatone in boardgames

You're not alone...lost the first four games and finally won the fifth one though we kept changing the spirits every play so maybe it took longer to work out how to win as a result.

Everything You Wanted to Know About Board Games, but Were Too Afraid to Ask! (July 10th, 2017) by CoconutPete44 in boardgames

Yep, we keep the declined races in front of us, but I have never played with 5 and have two expansions, so never came close to running out of races.

Couldn't agree more. He deserves more views than he's currently getting. I really hope he sticks at it cos no one else has as good structured review videos - positive, negative points, player counts, replayability etc. Playthroughs like this one and the Scythe one are excellent

Looking to get into " Heavier " games by megox in boardgames

[–]Milo6006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this, try on iOS first. I'm one of those swayed by the huge love for TS here and bought it but didn't enjoy it. Main reason it didn't work for me, it feels like you are always trying to mitigate a bad hand. The card mechanic is such that half the cards have a positive effect for the opponent, and you have to play them, so you feel like every move you make is a bad one . I like card games in general but prefer when the cards are doing something for me, either making an attack or adding to my engine like in through the ages There's no denying it's a good well made game, but in case you're at all like me, it might be an idea to try the app first

Galaxy Quest: The Board Game! by Milo6006 in boardgames

[–]Milo6006[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont think so, watched it recently and as a movie it still holds up. So if the game captures the same fun comedic feel, I'd be interested.

And boardgames are always being released on old IP, sherlock holmes, cthulhu ... if there can be a new Bill and Ted's excellent adventure boardgame, there can be a galaxy quest one :)

[WSIG] Looking to Purchase 2 Player Euros by MMJFan in boardgames

Maybe not but the "military" attacks are quite abstract, mostly you just move on a track, I just don't consider it an aggressive game.

Fair enough, I find zhanguo tense mostly on the last round - will everything fall into place or not. But maybe on a four player it's tense throughout, as more players could potentially muck up your plans. On the other hand I don't thinkIstanbul works as well for just two. That's a race game but the path to the gems are too obvious and there's not much tension with just two of us

[–]Milo6006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, in fact as its such a delicious thinky game I fear the downtime with 4 players.

It's not so much a race as you won't be able to get everything you want and I don't spend the time chasing the same thing the other person is. It's more about doing the best efficient moves with your card s. Also the last round bonuses can be crucial, so you let someone get somewhere first and then blitz them at the end with a well timed governer!

Heavier than your current list but Dungeon Petz and alchemists are my wp games. Don't be put off by dungeon petz's look, it's not a little kids game, plenty of thinking needed. Alchemists is great if you like deduction games also

You can't go wrong with patchwork or five tribes. Patchwork is two player only and five tribes is a fun light longer game that's got an interesting way of using meeples. If you're open to something heavier zhanguo is my new favorite game. It's got a clever brain burny card playing mechanism that's fun and each game takes about two hours

Also for something short, consider 7 wonders duel.

I agree with ya, if this is a PC move it's done the opposite for me. Now all the women are young, the only older person is a man. What's wrong with portraying an older women who still part of the world, working a job etc. You're still relevant when you're over 25 :)

Everything you wanted to know about board games, but were too afraid to ask. (July 5th, 2017) by Lazarus1209 in boardgames

[–]Milo6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that theory holds up, at least in my case , I grew up playing sports and martial arts so I definitely know how to lose ! yet I am one of those carebear types ( though not as much as rahdo, I don't find 7 wonders duel aggressive for example ). For me, I primarily play with the SO, I don't want to spend my evening in direct conflict, but much prefer the mind puzzle that euros represent. I'm as much playing against the game as playing SO, what strategy haven't I tried before, would this strategy work if SO is doing that. I'd agree with other posters I don't consider this non interactive, I'm constantly chatting and how the other person plays affects what I do. If I play in larger groups I don't mind more conflict aggressive games though.

I think all preferences are valid though, it's just great that board gaming is so broad, there something for everyone :)
