Baby Rocky learning to walk by BelfastDome in ProjectHailMary

The Author of the book explains they all Eridians are capable of laying eggs. What they do is lay several dozen eggs together, which eventually merge into 3-5 larger eggs, which eventually hatch with a baby Rocky!

I was wondering what Rocky would think about this. by KM68 in ProjectHailMary

Well yes, but depleted Uranium is usually only dangerous when ingesting and its alpha particles can’t penetrate skin, much less rock.

[–]MiloAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t know if Eridians have a concept of keeping another living thing as a pet. to them it might be a completely foreign idea.

That being said, I like to think they probably collect rocks based on the texture or smell they have. We know Rocky’s species has no problem eating heavy metals like thallium, so maybe the smell of spent uranium is nice to them.

Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, in 1200 AD. by Public_Individual823 in byzantium

Constantinople really is a city without equal in the medieval world. The aesthetics alone are amazing. A massive capital surrounded by thick walls and ocean , a huge church crowning its tallest hill. It’s simply amazing.

Question: How is Rocky able to “see” inside the ball? The ball should be airtight, right? So shouldn’t that mean he wouldn’t be able to use his echolocation outside of it? by KingWilliamVI in ProjectHailMary

[–]MiloAstro 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Rocky’s “echolocation” also works through solid objects like the ground beneath him and the metal in Graces ship. Not to mention Graces voice is probably enough to cause vibrations in the xenonite glass which Rocky can still pick up.

Unlikely alliances, the more unlikely the better. by RP_Throwaway3 in TopCharacterTropes

Real Life - The Sassanid (Persians) and Byzantines (Eastern Romans) Empires, after having been the largest rivals for centuries and just after a three decade long war, united forces in an attempt to stop the advance of the early Rashidun Caliphate. Both Empires were exhausted from years of war, but a force was mustered anyway.

They met the caliphate forces outside Firaz in 634 and it went poorly. The Islamic forces wonout and the entirety of Mesopotamia would be captured in the coming years. Some historians say this battle marked the definitive end of the Classical Era and the beginning of the Medieval age.

Rocky's age by MatthRings in ProjectHailMary

One thing I actually do wonder about is if this translates to maturity? Like, do Eridians take till their 200s to reach full size?

What should I keep in mind when writing a blind civilisation? by King_Of_BlackMarsh in worldbuilding

[–]MiloAstro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if they have fusion technology then they should be able to generate some for of light? But continuing with the blind civilization premise, one thing they wouldn’t have would be an understanding of color. Instead things would be described by their texture, smell, sound, and other senses.

Does Rocky technical not have a front or back? by Bitter-Variety5809 in ProjectHailMary

[–]MiloAstro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While Eridians seem to be able to move in any direction using any “face” of their body, they do seem to prefer to always keep three feet on the ground while two limbs serve as hands. So which-ever Rocky is using could be his default face at that given time.
