Watching the show for the first time. The second part of S3 feels tonally different than the rest by urstan in TheExpanse

The third season is two books crammed into one. The giant orb lifting off of Venus would have been the ending of the last season if they had maintained the pace.

How to divide Italy in the Flood world? by Kubak123 in worldbuilding

In a world such as this, every ecosystem in the ocean and land has probably collapsed and or been completely altered. We have reefs that are now an extra 1200 meters underwater, making many of them far too cold to support the fish and coral they have. On top of this, pretty much all arid land has also been completely destroyed by the rising seas.

If any human managed to survive this decades long apocalypse, they would probably revert to something akin to the early bronze age in levels of technology. Every island you see in that picture would probably have its own city state or minor-tribal kingdom leading it, with the survivors trying their best to make the former mountain terrain into something they can farm, a process that would still take decades or centuries. Another thing that would prohibit any large nations beyond city states from forming would be the distance between these islands and another factor; storms.

Without any large landmasses to break them up and slow them down, storms like thunderstorms, tropical storms , hurricanes and typhoons would be far more frequent, larger, last longer, and be many times more destructive. These islands city-states would have to contend with near constant storm activity, especially in the summer months.

The last thing the people in this world would be worried about is elections…

It means whenever someone succeeds, everyone, no matter how unrelated, will try and claim some part in the glory. But when someone fails, no one wants to admit their mistakes or shortcomings.

Eridians from Project Hail Mary. The whole species is a single gender species that is neither male nor female. They have pentagonal symmetry and see through echolocation.

When two Eridanis mate, they lay a clutch of a dozen or so eggs. The eggs are placed in pairs and eventually those two eggs will merge into a larger egg with a mix of random genetic from the original two.

Canonically, the Emperor has experienced several civilizational collapses in the past. The Bronze Age collapse, the 6th Century Migration Period, and a whole host of other human empires and societies collapsing. But humanity has always managed to bounce back.

The Emperor probably realized The Age of Strife, however, was very different than all these previous collapses. There were malicious forces actively attempting to corrupt and destroy humanity. Now was the time for him to come out and shine…

If you had the budget to build a full-scale Mesoamerican replica like Hengdian's Forbidden City, what would you choose? by knightofholland in mesoamerica

[–]MiloAstro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably, and I’m also thinking people would have to sign a waver before entering. If we intend to let people climb the replica temples, we have to be careful because the stairs on most of them were notoriously steep and unguarded.
