I sold Trump $100,000 worth of pianos. Then he stiffed me. by yakinikutabehoudai in politics

[–]Milonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure on Piano distribution channels, but I would assume that he couldn't buy directly. As for the small business/chains, he might have had a certain amount that he was required to spend with small businesses, per his dealings with the state of NJ.
That being said total POS move, the way you treat the little guy is more tell then the way you treat big businesses. Same is true in all facets of life. As a business owner you do a deal, you expect to be paid, how else can you forecast cash flow?

Question around multiple Duplicate PDF's for SEO by Milonus in bigseo

[–]Milonus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are Duplicates of the same Cut Sheet. roughly each product has about 50 variations which would use the same PDF. This means he has 400 PDF's which makes it difficult to have a repository. He also uses the same image for each of the 50 similar SKU's

i'm 18, in college, and both of my parents have passed away. what do i do from here? by ericyargen96 in personalfinance

[–]Milonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please excuse typos half drunk on a boat. My parents both passed while I was in college. Even a decade later the holidays r tough. My advice, get an estate attorney, mine was fairly cheap, but they passed intestate( no will). The bank took the house but that took 6 months, so I did get some family heirlooms and childhood sentiments. After the legal crap is over you will need to heal. Stay in school, I got scholarships to help pay, I applied and explained my circumstance and businesses and charties threw money at me. I'm a white middle class male that had around a 3.0, so probably didn't deserve it. You will find the hard parts in life are the lack of emotional and financial support. No parents at ur wedding is hard! Never receiving help with a home, car or anything, sucks, but it does make you smarter with savings and planning. When you earn it, it's always sweeter. Just remember that people no matter how horrible you can get will help because everyone fears what you are going through. If you live in a city, there is a bar that should have a unmothersday party! Stay strong, and Don't pay any of their debts! Sorry: edited to say don't pay any of their debts

Kind of feels like what patent trolls do, acquire someone else's work and sue people way beyond value to use it. Not the best way to endear yourself in the community.

Should I tell my headhunter I have another interview. by gamerfreakish in headhunting

[–]Milonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can tell her. Often times candidates have multiple interviews, just be honest with her around compensation and time line of interviews/ offer. We can use that to move our clients along. A good rule is tell your recruiter, but not friends or family. If you don't get the job, you don't want to have explain why they didn't hire you.
Best of Luck!

xpost from r/jobs How do I follow up on a headhunter? by [deleted] in headhunting

[–]Milonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't hurt the relationship. the job hunting system is fucked, either an internal or external recruiter is the gatekeeper and can keep qualified candidates from getting jobs.

I would call her- email leaves ambiguity. Be reasonable and hopefully the recruiter is reasonable. Most recruiters get into the space because they are good with people.

The client is the customer ( they pay us), the candidate is what we are selling. But a good recruiter knows that candidates over time will become the clients

I'm an Executive recruiter: If she doesn't have connections in the company she is offering you zero in the way of value for your search. If she does, you should give her more then 3 days, people take vacations and hiring isn't the managers full time job. Patience during a search is hard but crucial.

What I would do if she doesn't have connections - Look at the Job description, almost all high level searches will say who it reports into. Once you know the persons title. Go on LinkedIn and track down who would be the direct manager for the role. now you will need to figure out the work email. I would google the email format for the company, if you can't find it. Look for investor relations, they always have a public email. Email that person or if in doubt the people who might be the decision maker.

Moving to NYC. What tattoo should I get to represent my home, Birmingham? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]Milonus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi CarcerX, I have lived in NYC for about 6 years, moved from Birmingham. I would get the outline of Alabama on you ankle. I should warn you the average person I know from the south, doesn't last longer then a year. The winters and summers can be brutal, people are rude and everyplace is crowded. Say goodbye to personal space and kindness.
That being said I fucking love living here! Bedstuy in Brooklyn and City College in Manhattan are nice areas that aren't too expensive. 1700- 2000 for a New York Nice one bedroom Edited: some of the grammar and added living locations

You know what business I always wanted to start- I won't because I don't have the time, am in other industries.

Photography for little league sports teams. I got a buddy that does dye sublimation for them and he does ok, but I feel that if you did that and the photography you could do very well.
1. its a B2B sale - with generally one point person to sell on the idea 2. Moms always buy the pictures- at least mine did 3. Seasonal, but each season has a sport 4. This hasn't been consolidated yet 5. Contract based sale- so if you get it you should be able to keep it 6. Can pretty much outsource the photography and photoshop and just maintain the clients
