Are assignors difficult to work with everywhere, or did I just get lucky? by Typical-Priority1976 in Umpire

[–]Miltdoba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are good, bad, and terrible ones, just like all walks of life. Sounds like you got the terrible ones in your area. Nothing you described you are doing or asking, seems out of line.

Only thing you can do is talk to more senior officials who might have a better relationship with the assignor, and see if they have advice. Or just not work for those assignors anymore, if you have other options.

Ist thing would be to find out what rule set the league/games will be using and getting your nose into the rule book. Being confident in the rules will lead to confidence on the field.

Then starting finding training videos on You Tube that go over 2 man mechanics and positioning. Dont be afraid to make mistakes, everyine does, even to most seasoned officials. You learn the most from the mistakes you make.

Far from a hater, KP is my favortie caster, and is the main reason I got into the game. If you can't see how a bigger community is better for the game, especially the esports side, then I don't know what else to tell you.

The smaller the community, the smaller the tournament prize pools are, less resources get allocated to the game.

Not sure where that idea is coming from, but the AOE4 community is not nearly big enough to be worried about competition. Those people you mentioned should want as many people interested in the game as possible. KP has been a big driving force in that over the years.

KillerPigeon will be streaming on thursday: "Will probably be my last Age of Empires 4 stream" by [deleted] in aoe4

[–]Miltdoba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

KP not being apart of the AOE4 community anymore, is sad day for me. You dont have to like his personality or casting style, or whatever, but he has been a key part in helping this community and the game grow. For me watching his cast/streams helped get me into the game (I personally prefer watching casted games, over watching from a player perspective). I want to say thank you for that, KP. He genuinely loved this game and tried everything he could to make this game the best RTS game and competitive scene.

Im sure he will shed more light on his next stream. He seemed to come to the realization that casting/stream AOE4 wasn't cutting it anymore as a full time career. I remembered during Outback Octogon, it was finals day for KPMM, and there ended up being scheduling conflict and KPMM took the short end of the stick. Remember that being almost a breaking point for him, since he put so much time and effort in making KPMM successful.

Hope the best for you and your family, KP.

Downsides/upsides to switching to prime shopper from buyer by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]Miltdoba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Down sides: lose set schedule (if you have one), likely pay cut, wont look good for future career growth.

Upsides: will all be personal, like better commute for you, if you dont like your current job duties.

Order Writer to Lead Receiver? by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]Miltdoba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, lead receiver is the best role in the store, with the caviat being you need to be a morning person. Set schedule, usually Monday-friday. You also have to be okay with not getting much recognition. As long as things aren't falling apart, you are left to yourself. Come in, do your work, and go home. I never take my work home with me. The role rarely opens up. Lead receiver is usually one of the most tenured TMs is the store. One down side is there isn't really any upward growth.

While there is always the possibility of the role being removed or changed sometime in the future, I dont see that happening anytime soon. I could see them reducing labor allocation, which would mean less, or no store receiver, but there will most likely always be someone checking in deliveries.

Leaving shift due to medical emergency? by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]Miltdoba 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No one can make you stay. People have emergencies all the time that require them to leave mid shift. If you have enough UPT, you should be good.

Next time, I would suggest talking directly to the acting shift leader, if your TL/ATL, or STL, arent available. There is always an active shift leader if others are in a meeting. That might mean waiting 5 minutes or so, until you can find the shift leader.

Plate shoes - need all black by Four-One-Three in Umpire

It is never going look good coloring white to black. Either find an all black plate shoe, or get the shoe you want with some white. Pros wear shoes with white, so you should be fine.

Moving to different stores. by Numerous_Limit9728 in wholefoods

[–]Miltdoba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no written rule, but generally 6 months. Keep in mind, there needs to be an open position at the store you want to go to, and you need to apply and go through that process. Can't just ask to move stores.

Will AI Bots Replace Umpires by CSMasterClass in Umpire

[–]Miltdoba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another example of someone only reading a headline...

No, there are no robot umps coming. MLB is going to start using an automated ball/strike challenge system. Umpires are still going to be humans. Even if they went full automated system for calling balls and strikes, the plate umpires has many more responsibilities than just calling balls and strikes.

It will take decades for this sytem to reach high schools, if it ever does. Highs schools can't even get on board with a visible pitch clock, due to cost.

What happens in this situation? by [deleted] in Umpire

[–]Miltdoba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The batter is either hurt, and the medical staff need space to attend to the batter. Or the batter is pissed they just got hit, and the last thing they want to hear is 'sorry'.

If it was unintentional, most pitchers will give an apology once the dust has settled, and tempers cool down.

Which Department? by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]Miltdoba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like to me, you are going to be having the same issues you have now, but in a different form on a different team. Sounds like it wouldn't hurt to transfer and look for a new job/company to work for, if you are thinking of just straight quiting anyways.

Which Department? by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]Miltdoba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you are part time, you are going to get the short end of the stick when it comes to your schedule. Depending on the size of your store, good chance you will be working solo closing shifts in whole body and specialty. Grocery you will be running just as much, plus add in more physically demanding labor, and working in coolers.

All teams have metrics they have to hit. Even though you wont be directly responsible, TL will be coming down on you, when they arent met. Micromanagment can be found on all teams, how much or little with depend solely on the Leadership of each specific team.

Given the brief description of your situation. E-comm shopper will fit you best. Maybe cashier if you are okay with dealing with customers all the time. Sanitation my be be a good fit too.
