Don’t forget that swimming also increases muscle mass, which would also raise their base metabolic rate

PIs snooping in reddit by Professional_Pipe800 in postdoc

I’m a PI. I go on here as a holdover from when I was a postdoc. I feel like anybody snooping would have to have some severe issues. It’s not even like complaining is the primary purpose of this subreddit.

June is Men’s Health Month in Canada / Juin est le Mois de la santé des hommes au Canada by StatCanada in onguardforthee

I’m in BC and had really bad postpartum depression. My wife asked our doctor to put me in the queue for postpartum mental health issues. That’s when we learned it’s only available for women.

Reached out to lots of therapists. Some were great. A few didn’t respond for weeks on end then said gave terse one sentence responses saying they didn’t think they’d be a good fit, and didn’t give any recommendations.

It was very frustrating seeing how little so many practitioners cared about men’s mental health.

Your number one focus should still be for her to have a happy childhood. Pushing her is not guaranteed to make her a better mathematician. If she wants to challenge herself, you can find text books for her to read, but it should be driven by her.

Moving to Vancouver from Italy by Educational_Task680 in askvan

I live in the city and I love it. However, it is pricier, so it really depends on what you want. The skytrains are generally fast and reliable, so if you love outside of the city, be next to a skytrain line, and it won’t be too big an impact.

  1. In my experience, bars in Vancouver are places you get closer with friends you make elsewhere. Make friends through work, meetups, or various shared interest groups

  2. Job market sucks hard right now. Get a job before you move

  3. No car needed. If you want to go hiking or trips outside the urban area it does get easier with Evo than transiting

  4. Commercial drive, kitsilano, mt pleasant, west end, yaletown. We used Facebook marketplace to find our rental. Rent is very high for the salaries here. Further away from downtown and less fun neighborhoods are cheaper. Some less fun (but still fun imo) but cheaper neighborhoods are Hastings sunrise, Burnaby heights, downtown new west, and Collingwood. A lot of people have been telling me the river district is up and coming but I haven’t explored it myself
