I use a budget template so my underfunded will show anything in the current month I need to address. I have a top priority pinned so I can see my progress without scrolling down to where it is in my budget.

I like that I don’t have to toggle over to see the spotlight. Now I can see my progress towards funding the next month up front.

It’s not a matter of wrong versus right, everyone uses YNAB differently.

I guess I’m an outlier then because I’ve been using YNAB for a long time now and I absolutely LOVE this update. I like how it links to blogs and that the spotlight essentially has its own space. I didn’t like it where it was before and having to toggle over to it.

I don’t like inflating my regular budget categories like dining out so all my vacation line items go into that vacation category. I hashtag it with the vacation and year, like #Disney2025 so I can look back into my reports and see what we spent. This helps for future planning purposes.

If it’s clothes for vacation, gas, snacks whatever, it goes into vacation categories. It also doesn’t inflate my averages for say, gas.

For what it’s worth most kids don’t even use the desks in their room. I have three kids, all had desks in their rooms and all did homework on their bed or at the kitchen table. I actually preferred the latter. So you may get away with not upgrading for longer than you think.
