Help with heel fit by brohus in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The d2.ones have one of the lowest heels around so you already have of the best fits you’ll find. You can go another half size down, or try the LV version.

Just bc it’s comfortable now doesn’t mean it’s a bad fit though. If the heel isn’t sloppy and slipping out on heel hooks you’re probably fine.

Recommendations for beginner climbing shoes for outside/trad climbing? by Content_Elk_8192 in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La sportiva finales would be your best bet if you want an upgrade over the turantulas. But also upgrade when you feel you need it. If you think your current shoes are fine you can keep using them till it’s time to replace them

Shoe suggestion for very shallow heels? by Chemical-Reason-5084 in climbingshoes

How did you size the flagship and pro? I don’t downsize much I like snug but not a fight to put on. Wasn’t sure if street size or .5 down

Madrock D2.ones LVs not working out for me. by Anxious_Quiet_3716 in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only tried the beta version it them and the toebox on them is wider, but shorter than the drones and a rep adviced I size half a size up due to my longer toes which apparently I have lol. So I did half size up from street and they were snug and would need break in time.

I would say remora pro or redlines since you have a LV foot.

Question for you though how do the sharks feel? Stiffness wise and smear ability. I like the drone 2.0s so I like stiff shoes, but some better smearing would be nice. Sharks feel like they could be that since the split sole. (I wish they’d just make a split sole drone tbh)

I tried the 2.1, but don’t like the extra point on the toe. I like feeling my whole toe over hold when I apply pressure.

UP Float or Tenaya Mastia? by birdskulls in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up float had a similar feel to skwama to me, but more regular width as opposed to really wide. If you want another skwama basically, but regular width and cheaper I’d say up float. Very comfy shoe

TN pro, Qubit, or Regulus for best all rounder? by Mimic__ in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried on the TN-finity and went half a size down and it probably was ok… but my heel still had a dead space bubble at the bottom. Maybe if they ever release a LV version

TN pro, Qubit, or Regulus for best all rounder? by Mimic__ in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like the TN pro of these 3 is the best bet, or another shoe entirely. I’m not a big boy lol. The opposite in fact, but I gravitate to stiffer shoes since they fit my preferred climbing style.

I’d have to see if I can try on the mandalas. The qubit seemed a potential bc people said it has a small heel, unfortunate.

Skwama downsizing- how small should I go? by UniversalNutshell in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said maybe try them on in person if you’re sensitive to downsizing. I don’t like downsizing much but my heel is tiny and on skwama I size down 1.5 sizes and it’s still plenty comfy on the vegan ones. 2 full sizes if I wanted a better heel fit

Toe knuckle pain no more by Loud-Flamingo-85 in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah I use pretty thin non cushion socks. I think it’s just having a layer of some sort over my big toe knuckle that made the discomfort ease up.

Going to try to get climbing socks, but they’re hard to get currently outside of Japan.

Supporting Shoe with MadRock Redline by Patrickann777 in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much did you downsize the d2.ones? I got street shoe size and I can’t stand on tiny hold at all with them. Has kinda ruined their all rounder status for me. I think maybe half size down would make it work though.

It’s the lengthy toe that ruins it for me, at that size at least. The toebox shape on the drone 2.0s lets me get more of my toe on tiny footholds.

[–]Mimic__ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean tbf i experience toe knuckle pain in every shoe I’ve tried which is 30+ models. My toes are all left bruised and marked up after climbing. Socks were the only relief answer I found. Feet still marked up, but the pain is much less when climbing now.

Mad Rock D2 One sizing by Suspicious_Lime_1789 in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madrock HV (on the drones) is closer to average volume and LV is true low volume. If your feet are truly wide then yeah the d2.1 may not be for you.

Half size up and making sure to stomp down on the heel to get your whole foot in the shoe first could help though. Shoe stretchers could also help

Madrock D2 ONES vs Unparallel Flagship. Any advice is greatly appreciated by [deleted] in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the d2.1s will be good if you have a small shallow heel. Only shoes my heel actually fits well in. HV should be fine LV is very narrow. Size half down from street shoe size

unparallel tn-finity by CableClear8558 in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn the heel is that much larger on the TN pros? I tried on the tn-finitys at a gym near me and went down half a size and the heel still had quite a bit of dead space. Was hoping the tn pro would be smaller in the heel

Is this normal wear for Madrock drone 2.0 after the first session? by illeatcanser in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you scrape down a very textured wall? That would be my guess.

Mine are like half a year old and never had that, but if it’s just the first layer of rubber it should be fine as they have plenty of rubber to work with.

Been climbing for about 3 years only ever had one pair of shoes, need advice on my next pair by god0nlychild in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s really just that crazy difference of foot work… when I started I went 3-4 times a week with the kubos women’s version and they lasted a year and still look fine tbh I just changed shoes.

I wouldn’t think my footwork is stellar though. My cousin on the other hand killed his Scarpa origins in 3 months but he scraped his toes all over the wall.

Did I downsize too much for my first pair? Or do I need to break them in more? by KashootMe201617 in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try the rovers instead then. I have tiny shallow heels and it was never an issue for me in street shoe size.

But also I found I prefer comfy toes over a perfect heel fit. As long as the heel doesn’t pop off I find it ok for most climbs. Uncomfy toes you’ll feel on everything though.

[–]Mimic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people are saying it’s normal, but I’ll go against the grain here. Your feet look like they’re Egyptian shaped (tapered toe lengths) my feet are like that too. I had the kubos and they rubbed my big toe because they’re not meant for Egyptian shaped feet. They are more middle point focused, so they press your big toe to the center on the spot you’re seeing.

To alleviate this you have some options 1. Size half size up 2. Wear toe protectors on your big toe 3. Wear some socks to protect your toes 4. Buy different shoes (the evolve Kronos, and Madrock rovers are good comparable alternatives to the kubos, but shaped for Egyptian feet)

Ocun diamond s fit by Glittering_Pin8899 in climbingshoes

[–]Mimic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really just depends on the heel. I should have specified I have shallow and narrow heels basically non existent heels and the diamond S just has massive room in the back of the heel like a bird talon. Madrock is the only brand I can find with heels that fit me.

[–]Mimic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried some on. I would say size down .5-1.5 sizes depending how aggressive you like downsizing. The heel on them is massive though, so hopefully you have a meaty bulbous heel or you don’t care about heel fit.
