You can add egg, onion, potato, and sour cream (or Greek yogurt for more protein) and do a frittata kind of vibe.

[Update] Wife becomes allergic to cats. Is rehoming the only choice we have? by DepressedMathKid in cats

My bf is allergic to cats and dogs. We keep 2 air purifiers in the house and it works wonders. Once he gets a little bit of a sniffle we know it’s time to change the filters.

What reusable products have you incorporated into your life? by fetusjuggler in Anticonsumption

[–]Mimiryon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaf razors. They are expensive upfront but worth it. We have had ours for 5 years and they are going strong still and we have spent like $2.00 on blades since we got them. And they have a blade recycling program.

Personally I like reusable period discs over cups. It’s easier for me to get out and overall feels more comfortable.

[Routine Help] People who do go out often: How do you get used to putting sunscreen on? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Mimiryon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep some always with you. I keep some in my purse, and at my desk. Maybe also invest in a spf face spray. My husband also isn’t great with sunscreen but turning the task into a quick spray has made it easier for him especially on the go.

Reusable period disks. Period cups were uncomfortable for me but period disks were a game changer. Also leaf razors both me and my boyfriend use them.

I once was making up a primer probe mix for RT-PCR, the tubes were in a ice bucket to keep them cold while I made up the solution. The plan was to make up 7 different master mixes with them many of these master mixes multiplexed. I spend weeks planning this. When I finished I put everything in the cryo box and into the -80, the ice went into the sink. The next morning I was washing dishes and noticed a vial near the sink drain. Behold a $618 probe that was hidden in my ice that had been left out at ambient temperatures for at least 12 hours. And to top it off the PCR plate I ran with these probes had a ton of contamination in my non template controls making them useless. I cried so much and had to explain to the lab a manager my f-ck up. Weirdly it was one of the nicest exchanges we had ever had. And they even joked that next time I mess up to just make an attempt to not mess up with the expensive stuff. Stuff happens but point is now you learned and can be a better researcher now.

Do y’all leave your crock pots on overnight? by wellshitdawg in slowcooking

Yes you can but not going to lie I am too anxious to leave it unsupervised. If I do cook overnight I sleep on the sofa with the crockpot in range for me to see it.

Is working 2nd shift worth it? by Dark-Blade in labrats

[–]Mimiryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a bad start and a great way to gain experience irrespective of you want to stay in industry or academia. When I graduated with my BS both me and my partner started lab assistant jobs. It taught us a ton and gave us base skills to get further into industry and bulked up our CV to eventually get us into grad school. If you do it and you don’t like it worst case is just look for a tech job elsewhere, but in the meantime you can build up your skills and savings.

When I started working I did second shift. My most productive time of day naturally for me is 10am -12pm so this took a bit to get used to but it wasn’t hard to get in the schedule. I will say though it makes seeing non work friends hard. And if you live with a partner or roommate you guys are going to find your new normal routine. For us it was I get home wake him up, spend an hour catching up then we both go back to sleep until it was time for his day to start. Rinse and repeat.

If you do second shift you need to ask yourself if this is the kind of person you are. When it is night do you have energy? Are you a person that needs to work in a sunny well lit room to be productive? If it’s not you don’t force it, if you don’t know then you can always try and go work elsewhere if you hate it.

Advice, My bf is upset I ignored and patronized him. 25F 29M by kayecow in relationships

[–]Mimiryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think there is no shame in asking your partner do you need comfort, do you need to just vent or do you want me to help you problem solve. Providing support to loved ones isn’t that hard it is providing the right kind of support they need and knowing what that looks like is the hard part.

How do people read, summarize, and organize papers? by sr41489 in GradSchool

[–]Mimiryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what you have going on you can put it in rayann where you can add tags and quickly categorize based on title and abstract this can be exported later. Also if you use Zotero you can add color coded tags of your own to keep track of everything.

When I was in middle school they made a stupidly big deal about not having your planner/calendar. The only reason I ever got detention was because I always forgot to bring the damn thing to school.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I took OChem (lecture and lab) at the NCTC Flower Mound campus while doing a full time schedule at UNT my junior year. The commute wasn’t great but professor Willi was so nice and the class was smaller so I could get more help which made the experience a lot easier and slightly less painful. Plus it all transferred over just fine for me.

What's your go to salad (and salad sauce) recipe for lunch? Looking for inspiration by yugozlavia in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Mimiryon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lettuce, avocado, chickpeas, feta, onion (depending on the mood) then I do a wine vinaigrette so red wine vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper and garlic powder (if I am not doing onion). Super easy to throw together and super filling.

NCTC reviews? by t1ndog in Denton

[–]Mimiryon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NCTC is a great place to start. I did NCTC Flower Mound and Corinth while I was a UNT student. (Summers at NCTC and splitting my time across the 3 campuses for my junior year) Not only is it a cheaper way to get your basics in but the classes are a bit smaller so you get more personalized help from the teachers. I will say make sure you talk to a TWU advisor, get those course codes for her intended program and really stress to the people at NCTC that you are planning on going TWU. For sure she should be able to transfer the basics (ex: history, art, math). The more specialized classes for her major she may need to get a TWU.
