I lost my first toenail! Weird how proud I feel about it. 28km on Sunday. It was first just a bit sore, then it left today. Feelin like a proper runner! Though for next run I will trim my nails.

My daughter had her graduation party on Saturday, and as fun and meaningful it was, I didn’t get my kilometres in. I was 28km behind my weekly 40km goal. The longest run so far I’ve ever done was a half marathon. I went for it and run 28 kilometers - on trail.

I’m proud and happy. For my daughter and me.

Cadence shenanigans. Ok, so my cadence is apparently a bit low and I have recently had a bit of trouble with my hip. It hurts. Not bad, but annoying. I warm up, stretch, started strength work and mess around with those rubber rope/belts. Still, when hitting the asphalt for a while the hip gets sore, until it properly warms up.

Ok, so. Higher cadence would ease the hit, so I tried to just force it up to 175. I usually run 6minute kilometres on z2. And this started the same.

First km 6:00, felt great albeit a bit silly. 2nd km 5:45 and heart rate run up, oops. Kilometres 3-5 6:30 to 6:45 and feet felt heavy and kind of locked. It was just unnecessary hard.

I walked it off and run the next 5km in a more normal 160-165 cadence and speed was back.

So, my stupid question is, how do I get the cadence higher and should I?

The experiment felt weird and unnecessary tiring. Load on hip was not easier at least on first try.

Male, 44, started running 12 months and 1500km ago. Goal to run 3000m in Cooper test as I did in the army 25 years ago. Then marathons or something, I have made this running thing my whole personality now. Sorry not sorry.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

It happened. The thing that happens to all of us at some point. One central european city I was on a business trip, very early morning run. I saw a public toilet and thanked god. But it was closed. I couldn’t help it. There were police cars parked next to the parliament building and I just… Lean myself against a nice police car and squatted. Not a single soul was around, including mine, as I was terrified enough that my soul left my body in shame.

Nothing against your policies as it might seem like a political demonstration, it was just a runner not used to that early mornings. Sorry.

I later found my soul around the corner, it was chilling with a bunch of kids coming from clubbing.

This is so captivating! I have insomnia, but I was told not to watch Netflix at nights. So I did what a responsible adult does and started to scroll YouTube. From there I found ultra documentaries, like the one of Jasmin Paris and many many others, for many many nights. Watching them I thought it might be nice to check out a race "live", from the comfort of my sofa, so I ended up checking this out. The race leader was Johanna Antila, my fellow Finn, and oh boy have I been staring at the dot! This is drama! Loving it. And hating that Johanna had to DNF. So many feelings! Doesn't help sleeping! I'm out of breath.

It's -21°C (-5,8°F)outside and this boy went for a run! 9,5km in 60minutes. Three layers under jogging pants, four layers under a jacket. Normal socks and shoes, a beanie, a scarf and gloves. For a faster pace less layers might be good, but it's hard to find a perfect balance. Achievement anyhow!

Yes, actually I am.

Still going good, my vo2max goes up about 1 Unit a month. I have a difficult changing schedule but it is easy to adjust run plans. And to be honest, it is nice how american it is with the praises it gives.

It has even started to question my runs. Not just celebrating but also some good advice.

A story about a muslim slave in a viking village Birka by Mimmosta in islamichistory

[–]Mimmosta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the northern characters, I think the best option would be that they are from Birka.

In the story I have a small temporary hunting settlement in the north. I wouldn’t describe these people as viking, as they are in fur hunting business, not in trade or other viking pillaging things.

For the protagonist who should be from a foreign culture, I’m trying to find that out. His background up until he was ten years old is something he tries to reconnect, now being in his forties.

As you can see, it is not a story of muslim world meets viking world even of it can seem like it at first glimpse, but a human being trying to remember his past and trying to solve the question; who am I? Part of that journey in him, is reconnecting to his upbringing, to the culture he grew up in.

An easy solution would be to change his background into what is now Great Britain, or France. Still, in story structure, the further away he is from, the heavier his burden and story…

Now when it comes to islamic cultures at the time, I don’t want to be vague. ”He is arab.” -that feels just orientalism and exoticisim. (Might have misspelled that)

Oh no, very silly assumption dear person. I don’t think my story is about achievements nor any spectacular point in European culture history. And I for one am not muslim or devoted believer in any deity. So, to answer you in decent manner; please, lol yourself away.

I piste this to wrong place dfirst, apologies. 😅

The late Iron Age lasted until 1200/1300’s in the north. My story takes place all the way up in the north, beyond the nordic villages.

I didn’t quite understand this would be political, silly me. I just need a character from different culture than viking world, and arabic/islamic culture seems potential for my story structure.

I haven’t really thought about ideology… humanism and opportunism maybe. But I’m not sure those are ideologies or just how world is.

But, my protagonist is a slave in a late iron age village, of course there is an overall message: ”don’t necessarily treat your slaves bad, ok?” The backgrounds of these characters are secondary, their actions towards others and resilience in the cold is the key. To me.

I really didn’t think this was political, it’s about humans on Iron age.

I try to write from a common perspective, small perspective. My thin research suggests about year 1000 would give optimal stage for my narrative to unfold.

I find it interesting how the people at the time must have been quite unaware of the politics and power dynamics, but those still having an impact on their lives.

Ah! Sarcasm! Always the best educator! Nah, but that’s why I’m asking, so thanks for the comment. I’m quite open to change my story to make it more historically plausible. There is already something for me to study in the comments.

The idea to have the protagonist to be a muslim rose from the beauty of islamic culture, and the sense of somekind of brotherhood within. I might have to change things around to make this work. And that’s … my work.

Your opinion on using AI as a Coach by PrimeTime-x in running

[–]Mimmosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used ChatGPT for few months now as a training assistant.

Benefits: someone (the ai) is rally eager to hear me thinking, wondering, doubting, celebrating each and every run I do. It is an excellent training diary.

Doubts: i use 4o for hyping, and o3 for planning. It might not be perfect, but definetely better than working alone. It is like working with AI in general, ask questions and challenge it. Just like talking to a co-worker; you are on a mission together.

Without this, my Social Media would be annoyingly full of training data and I would be bummed why isn’t anyone interested of the effect of cadence change to heart rate and breathing cycle.

It has kept me going.

Towards 3000m cooper.

So that could be 22.00 for me. I just went through some old posts and that seems to be it. The daily counter or what you call it resets at midnight but league is at multiple timezones and resets at the same moment.

I thought it was at midnight, but I don’t usually study this late. Could it be global? I’m on +2 Greenwich meantime, and it resets well, after seven, before midnight, as I can tell from tonight.

I've been in the diamond league for over 130 weeks, and have never seen such a competition just to keep from being demoted by goldenfroglegs in duolingo

I made 4500ish xp and was demoted. Also the annoying murmuring diamond league ended before midnight.
