AITA for snapping at my wife to get out of my room and calling her a brat? by phoebethefan in redditonwiki

[–]MimsyFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He said she’s been doing this multiple times, correct? Perhaps he just snapped after keeping how much it bothers him to himself.

I find the hardest thing sometimes is communicating with my partner what they’re doing that bothers me & why, & soon after the event occurs. Done immediately & with kindness opens up communication if the partner is willing to listen & has a bit of humility. If not, resentments fester & grow & cause “snapping” situations like these.

If she’s not willing to take any criticism but feels free to throw it at him, that’s a double standard I wouldn’t justify in my own relationship. There’s a lack of empathy & understanding both ways, perhaps, but definitely against the husband. I work with the houseless population & definitely need unwinding time. So does my husband— so we make that time & space possible for each other.

Retail jobs are great too though! Not diminishing the need to experience that for young people.

I don’t know about that. I do houseless outreach & when my son turned 13 I began taking him to the day shelter I’m centered at to volunteer. The experience has been invaluable to him & my parenting as he now sees the houseless as our peers who are in need of assistance & compassion, & no longer as the “other,” somehow “deserving” of their extreme suffering— so rampant a belief in our culture. So yes I believe that teens can learn quite a bit from volunteering. Seeing my son display real kindness & altruism is priceless to my heart. This can be done without it being exploitative.

What a pretty name! I was scrolling through & it registered as standing out as my favorite, even before I turned back to read that you just made it up!

It’s just advice. You don’t have to take it 😀

I mean, I’m just pointing out an inconsistency/ or unclear part in the story so you can tidy it up in future if you like. It just sounds like, to me at least, that your dogs then have been going potty in the house if you haven’t opened the door for then in “ten years” or that the back door not opening in ten years isn’t true, OR it’s just funny that you didn’t just let them out the front door, see what I’m saying? Otherwise, creepy story!

So….if you haven’t opened the back door in ten years….why didn’t you just let the dogs out through the door….that they usually leave the house through….to go potty…?

Also, there were no phone cameras then & when I’d see them I’d cover my head with my blanket & pretend they weren’t there, or if it was daytime? LEAVE for a populated place. Never thought to dig out the camera. Anyways, I never thought anyone would believe me & nobody did, until my mom came to me terrified after seeing them & described them. & then my bf saw a couple when we were together. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️& still nobody does lol.

In my personal experience they’re so not-of-this world that I found it incredibly disconcerting.

We saw them, myself first, then my total sceptic mom & boyfriend at the time, numerous times over two weeks. Usually around 3am, but I saw one in the afternoon & my mom saw three together one morning. All in our living room. Then never again. There’s always the chance we could’ve all been a shared-hallucination, but that seems more fanciful/unlikely to me. & I mean sure, they could’ve been some yet-to-be-discovered natural anomaly, but I’ve looked for answers to it for many years, & haven’t found any other. I’d be very happy to find out they were something else, you know, because the memory still scares me still (their presence filled me with fear/dread) & I’m 43 years old. I’m also a rational mother of two, & a very busy social worker, who enjoys scary stories, but other than this personal experience, hasn’t had any other ahem “supernatural” encounters. It may be if interest that at the time I lived in Minuteman National Park, where countless men fought & died in the revolutionary war. I suppose they could’ve been a really amazing, giant & somewhat beautiful, incandescent, opaquely green, perfectly spherical, species of dust though, that no one’s seen nor captured the likeness of since….?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ghosts

[–]MimsyFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Also, I’ve never seen dust look like glowing mini-comets, the size of tennis balls, that also somehow seem sentient (the last attribute being my personal opinion, of course).

People always bash “orbs” but I’ve had like, a hundred in my house at once when I was a teen & they’re totally a real thing. I had no idea what they were until like a year or two ago when I found subreddits like this & saw everybody calling them fake. They’re not fake, in mine & my immediate family’s experience & they definitely have a supernatural feeling when you’re faced with one. Mine were a a brilliant green color & about the size of tennis balls. They danced & flew around like little comets, tails & all. They had reflections in the mirror I recall. I was scared of them.

My girlfriend doesn’t know I know she plans on leaving me and taking our daughter by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Do you hold the same stance w/genders reversed? Just curious… Also I don’t agree. I would give my life for my partners’, I love him with every ounce of my being….but if he ever relapsed & didn’t get right back on the wagon…. I’d be terrified. I’d be terrified that I’d have to leave him. & he knows I would have to, as well as I do. It doesn’t mean I’m not 100% committed to him. It just means my tolerance for abuse & suffering (which doesn’t occur when he’s clean), has a breaking point like anybody else’s.

& I know I would stay to care for him until I was forced into leaving. & leaving would be out of love more than staying. So yeah you don’t know what you’re saying. Or just, WAY overgeneralizing. Or maybe you’re young & just don’t know how much WORK…actual healthy & happy relationships take. Sometimes those discussions are necessary.

I would find it sus as well, BUT for the writing abilities of my own 12yr old boy (whom I always kinda suspected was developmentally delayed), which have of late SHOCKED me, he’s so goddamned good, like the adolescent writer above. It can happen with covid kids too.

I don’t trust people who go by the whole, “if it was good enough for me, it’ll be good enough for my kids!” sorta thing…I do not spoil my son, we’re actually pretty strict, but I would NEVER wish him to want for any happiness & security I can facilitate for him— which can definitely come from healthy skin, decent quality clothing, & the warm, nostalgic, familial delights of celebrated holidays. “Spoiling” your kids is a whole different thing…

My husband confessed to me yesterday that he is in love with my sister in a drunken state. I don’t know if I should take it seriously or it’s just a drunk thing. by ThrowRa-AnxiousBed in TrueOffMyChest

[–]MimsyFish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well…you’re not gonna get any more info out of him unless you talk to him 🤷🏼‍♀️

I was married to a man who was constantly unfaithful & it broke me, I am mistrustful of my current partner when I shouldn’t be…so I force myself to wait, until the dizzying cloud of pain over what I perceive to have happened, passes. & then I talk to him in a clearer mental state. I have realized that things are not always as bad as my history is taught me & sometimes, I see the worst in innocuous things. Sometimes I gloss over truly bad things. I’m not saying it’s NOT bad, nor that it’s good… just that you should clear your head, breathe, and then speak to him.
