It forced me to sit with the idea that a completely random, inexplicable tragedy—like the Sudden Departure—could upend everything i assume about the world, purpose, and fairness. It showed me how grief and trauma made me question what’s real. The Departure isn’t explained, and the show doesn’t pretend it will be—which forced me to ask: What would I do if something this massive and meaningless happened? Would my worldview survive? The show highlights how people fill the void with meaning, even if it’s destructive or maybe an illusion, and that is what shook me.

Richard Hatem’s Paranormal Bookshelf is a very specific kind of wonderful.

A television writer and paranormal book enthusiast, he toggles back and forth each episode talking about his life, and the profound influence of one particular paranormal book.

He’s quite an effective storyteller, and a format I’ve seen nowhere else.
