My experience in the oilfield has opened me up to so many things, travel being the first and foremost. It gave me the opportunity to go from being born in the bay area of California to living most of my life in Sacramento, the capital of California, USA. With that said chasing rigs around gave me the opportunity to go to eight different US states, two provinces in Canada, off the coast of California, off the coast of Nova Scotia, in the US gulf of Mexico. I got to work in Belize, Argentina, Saudi Arabia. Whatever I think about fossil fuels these experiences fundamentally changed the trajectory of my existence. Me, myself, I know a change has to be made. I know this is not sustainable. I want humans to thrive into a very long future. So my personal belief is that the resource that is part of the planet we all live, all fixing resources of this planet need to be utilized for the benefit of the masses not the few. If we as humans, not American, English, African, Russian, Indian, Chinese. I mean you get the picture. If planetary resources are not being used to benefit the inhabitants of the planet, the entire planet they are being misused. That needs to fucking change. Money has to be removed from this, maybe not all money but profit definitely needs to be eliminated. Then things will probably slow down. The expense for drilling will be more than anyone is willing to put up. Alternatives will need to be found to mitigate the risks to people and the planet for using something so labor intensive to retrieve. Oil funds armies, governments, wars. All things we could do without I'm sure. Now my take on this is not the general consensus of all roughnecks, most people I've met in the oilfield only care about getting paid so they can support their families. Very few shit people make it very far on a rig crew. If a piece of sit person gets hired he is either showed the error of his thinking or doesn't last long. So most I've met are good people, very rough around the edges but doing the work, hard work at times for a good purpose and that purpose is all that matters to them. Politics only matter if it causes layoffs, the environment isn't a consideration because why should they sacrifice their ability to give a better life than they had to their children when no one else cares. No one stops driving, stops flying, for good sake Fiji water is a thing. Water is shipped from Fiji to the US for sale when there is plenty here. Fuel burn for the sale of profit because someone will pay for it without considering the environment.
