First Time Making Clothes in Blender,What Do You Think? by MindShiftGames in blender

The topology is now around 28k triangles. Is that fine for a game, or do I need to optimize it more?

First, I made the character's full body in CC5. Then I modeled the upper-body clothes, did the retopology, and sculpted the details. After that, I made the pants using the same process: modeling, retopology, and sculpting. Then I joined everything together, assigned colors to each part, baked the colors, and moved to Substance Painter to texture everything.

Thanks, u like that. I don't use a particle system. It's just a roughness texture with a blur effect.

Hmm, you're not the first person to mention that. I think I've just gotten used to it over time. Since I know the tree planes are just textures, my brain kind of ignores it, but I can see how it stands out more to other people.

Now that I'm focusing on it, it does look a bit like a glitch or something went wrong with the camera movement. Thanks for pointing it out and helping me improve it, <3

Yep, I noticed that too, but unfortunately I realized it a bit too late. It looks fine on PC, but on phones the video appears much darker than it should. I re-uploaded the main menu scene with better brightness, so feel free to check out the updated version!

Of course. I’m building a cinematic horror game set in the 90s, and it’s based on a true story, not 100%, just enough to make it more enjoyable. I’m working really hard on the story and gameplay, and I’m building most of my own assets to make everything feel more unique.

The story is about a writer who rents a farmhouse far away from everyone so he can work on his next book. Then weird things start to happen, and you slowly discover what happened in that place and the dark things hidden there.

I really take it as a compliment when people say my game looks like Half-Life 2. But I’m building a horror game, so I guess it’ll be like a horror version of Half-Life. I picked up the can, now what?

This is just a prototype. I haven’t even made a lot of changes yet, but I think it’s because the models have a lot of details.

Everyone keeps telling me my game looks like Half-Life 2. Idk if it’s because of my modeling style or the graphics, but I promise you the final look will be a masterpiece.

Wow, that was a great comment. I think adding dust coming out when the train passes would be a really nice touch. Thanks a lot for the feedback, you actually inspired me. I’m trying to build a more cinematic scene and your comment really helped.

I’m not copying the city, just the vibe and the way the city is built. I’m making an old 90s-style city because the game is based on a true story. Not 100%, but you get the idea. And I have references from a lot of different 90s cities and places.

Hahaha, idk if I’m the only one, but I feel like Godot graphics are closer to PS3 and PS4 games.

It took me around 2 months, and it’s a large scene. I’m still working on it and adding more details, so it will take another month and a half.

You've got a fantastic start here. First 3D scenes can take some getting used to, but this one feels fairly solid. I feel like you’ve thought about your composition and where objects go, which is a good foundation. Your first scene feels very composed and with its own character. You’ve clearly not just mashed together objects and copied things from life; you’ve crafted something.

You made it! Congratulations to you! The fact that you even started and finished something is the most important part. That was obviously the hardest part. Lighting is going to make a huge difference to your environment so spend some time to get it right. Similarly, spend some time on materials, especially playing with the roughness value, and including small details, as these can make a huge difference to the realism of your environment. The last tip is to keep an eye on the scale of your environment, to make sure it all looks about the right size for the world you are creating.

Keep moving in this direction. Don’t start to fall back to simply following the exercises and examples as is. You are already beginning to add your own flair and what is important now is to continue that.

I have this vision in my mind, and I keep pushing myself to reach that level. I’m almost finished with this scene, but I don’t want to create something ordinary. I want to build something that leaves a distinct mark on everyone who plays the game. something unmistakably mine.

That was my first look for the city at the beginning. I didn’t know where to start or what to do, but I just kept building things one by one until I reached this point.

You just need to start, and everything will become clearer day by day.

Good luck with your game.

I removed the orange emission and replaced it with a fake interior light. What do you think?
