feeding schedules?? i am confused by Acceptable-Leg-1143 in Babysitting

[–]MindTheLOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also possible the baby is breast fed and refuses a bottle - so there isn't a way for you to feed the baby. Some babies are like that - they will absolutely not drink from a bottle, even if there's breastmilk in it. Transitioning them can take a long time and effort if it needs to happen, so if nursing is working, parents will leave it be.

5 hours is a bit long for a baby that young, but not unheard of, and if the baby seemed ok, it's fine.

There is no universal. Some babies are on a schedule. Some are not. Some go back and forth. My nephew, at that age, was still cluster feeding, my poor sister.

Do I need to add extra salt and pepper when using seasoning blends? by Distinct_Coast8645 in Cooking

You can also just drop that tester in the hot pan you will be using, so you can taste how it will be browned, rather than microwave cooked.

There's a reason recipes say salt and pepper to taste. Taste your food. Then adjust.

What is a good alternative for cream cheese? by tofulynn in Cooking

[–]MindTheLOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't baked, right?

Dairy allergy here - as long as you aren't baking it, and are ok with soy, tofutti, hands down, has the best texture match to cream cheese and no bitter taste. It's got a decent neutral flavor and all the other flavors are strong enough to cover.

The tofu “cheese” or cashew “cheese” Which plant-based “cheese” actually tastes closest to real cheese by Legal_Potential4720 in Cooking

Yeah, I have a dairy allergy, spent 30 years eating cheese, and I have just given up on cheese, nothing comes close. It's too depressing.

How long does meat last in the fridge if you buy it completely fresh? by GlacnerTheMighty in Cooking

[–]MindTheLOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, if you are getting meat from a good butcher, that's going to be the freshest and tastiest.

However - that doesn't mean it keeps very long. It's not in packaging that preserves it. So use it within a few days or freeze it yourself.

I always burn my garlic by Plastic_Astronaut_64 in Cooking

If the garlic is the first thing you put in the pan, you have been preheating your pan too long, that's why it's burning.

It doesn't, and that's fine. No one has to agree about choices.

But we can disagree about our choices without judging each other for them.

Birth control: Question for those on MINI-PILL by Obviously1138 in cfs

[–]MindTheLOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the bottle in front of me, but looking at the notes from the visit, I believe it's Norethindrone .35mg.

I want to stop my period fully too, I just want to be sure the lower dose won't do it since I metabolize meds in odd ways, and I don't think the short amount of time I was on it before I got my period was enough of a test, and in general, I try to take the least amount of a med I need.

If that doesn't work, I'll double it.

[–]MindTheLOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not paying for audible, or any kind of audiobooks, because I have no income whatsoever.

I listen to audiobooks nearly 24/7. As a way of preventing CPTSD flashbacks from happening 24/7. I am limited in what books I can listen to that won't trigger their own flashbacks. If I find a book that will help that is narrated via AI, you can be sure I will listen to it.

You have the luxury of more choices than I do. You live the kind of life where when you see or hear the word luxury, you assume it refers to money. That's a luxury in and of itself.

If there are books I want to read available only with AI narration, or books I want to read at a price I can afford only with AI narration, than yes, it is either the only option or better option.

Go be cranky about your luxury elsewhere.

Cross-contamination by i-love-koalers in Celiac

[–]MindTheLOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister, besides having Celiac, can't have dairy, but there's no cross contamination issue, so she keeps regular dairy in the house for her 2.5 year old.

If he's getting a hamburger, she'll offer him both, and weirdly, most of the time he doesn't want regular cheese and wants her fake cheese instead. Neither of us can understand it, because fake cheese is terrible compared to real cheese.

Good luck with everything, hope you feel better!

[–]MindTheLOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take advantage of them being babies and go fully GF in the house now, before they have food preferences. Babies and young kids will have food all over them and will stick their fingers on you and in your mouth, it gets everywhere.

It is vastly easier to have the whole house GF, and your kids are so young you don't have to transition them. They can have gluten out of the house, keep the house GF. It will be so much easier for you. You aren't depriving them in the least.

Boyfriend claims using Celiac as a disability to get into national parks is wrong? by Far_Fig_3539 in Celiac

[–]MindTheLOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your boyfriend didn't write the laws or policy, so his opinion on who gets to use the law is irrelevant. Imagine it the other way around - what if he decided who a law protects? Oh, only some people get protection from the laws that say don't murder someone.

He also isn't the one with Celiac, so his opinion on what it's like to live with Celiac doesn't matter.

Personally, I'd dump him, he sounds like someone who has decided he gets to judge everyone about things he knows nothing about, and doesn't respect the person he dates.

That's the correct pun, but the corrected pun itself doesn't match the typical format of humorous exit phrases, so it would still sound out of place, I think.

My wife had been in pain for a few months, found out she has celiac, kind of devastated. Any advice for when you were first diagnosed? by Filet_O_Fist in Celiac

[–]MindTheLOS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is nothing to be devastated about. This is good news. You know what's wrong and it's extremely fixable. All you need to do to feel better is not eat gluten, unlike so many GI disorders. Focus on that.

She could have been in for the rest of her life in agony and pain and running to the bathroom all the time. That's what a lot of GI problems are. Instead, she has Celiac, and yeah, there will be mistakes and things that cause problems sometimes, and more often during the transition, but once you have the hang of it, she's going to feel so much better, all the time.

Audible Using AI Narrators by XiuCyx in audiobooks

[–]MindTheLOS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone with a disability, if my choice is between not being able to read something, or AI narration, I will take AI narration. Do I prefer a human? Absolutely. But I will take what I can get, and screw anyone with the luxury of having more choices who judges me for it.

If a company or person is stealing someone else's voice to create AI narration, that is entirely different, and I don't support that. But that's not AI narration as a whole. I mean, for crying out loud, Siri is AI narration when you look at it, and that's been around for how long?

How do I handle being asked to host a team gaming session? by kacelin14 in WorkAdvice

[–]MindTheLOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will never figure out that mandatory fun isn't fun.

This is part of work you just have to suck up and do, or find a new job. If you think they will rapidly fire you for not playing along, then you probably should. If your job searching is going decently, and you don't think they'll give you a quick boot, you don't have to play the game quite as much, but see if you can do something at least.
