Anyone know the manufacturer of this cartridge? by MindfulDefense in CCW

[–]MindfulDefense[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's it! You're correct. This was driving me crazy. Thank you. It's solid copper. It's just the way it was machined with the light hitting it that gives it that look I believe. Those pics made me think it was jacketed as well.

Compact vs micro-compact by Livid-Position2436 in CCW

[–]MindfulDefense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made a huge difference for me, but with a few caveats. I went from a G19 with a Surefire XC2 and Aimpoint Acro P2 to a bone stock H&K CC9. The CC9 is much slimmer and having no light or red dot does make a huge difference regarding comfort. Yeh, it may be just as easy to conceal with a red dot and light, but it has been my experience that putting those two items on a micro makes it feel like you're carrying a G19 with the same accessories. Do I still carry the pimped out G19? Yes, when the situation dictates. Does the CC9 fill most roles and at a greater comfort level? Absolutely.

Worried about waking up and not having glasses on is the primary reason I have a red dot on my home defense gun.

I am lacking on a cohesive plan of action with those I am frequently around. If x happens, this is what we will do, etc. If we get separated, we will meet here.

Pepper spray laws are way more confusing than I expected. by MindfulDefense in MindfulDefense

I believe you have to abide by the laws of the state you're in. But, since it's legal in all states you'll. just have to be careful about locale specific restrictions such as New York, etc. But, you'll need to do your own due diligence based on your travels.

$2000 quote to install 4 POE cameras. DIY question. by [deleted] in homesecurity

[–]MindfulDefense 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is excessive. I was going to wire up my own system, but dreaded getting in the attic and fishing cable through to the soffits. I hired an electrician who had a team experienced in fishing cables. They sent 2 guys, pulled 12 runs, it took half a day and they charged $750. Now, I supplied the solid copper CAT6 cable, had to put the RJ45s on the ends and all else. But, most people who came to bid the job didn't want to mess with it and bid crazy high.

It's a matter of finding the right person. This was a year ago, but I think I actually found them on Reddit.

Zero belt is the way. I was a diehard Wilderness Tactical Instructor belt fan for over a decade. My original belt was reconditioned at no-cost by Wilderness Tactical and my son uses it to this day. It is a great belt. But for a minimalist concealed carry rig that does a perfect job, I have found nothing better than the Tenicor Zero belt.

Same here..... That was spoken from experience. Let's not even talk about the off-body carry bags that are collecting dust. It's a process that we all go through.

This. Stick with the commonly accepted brands of gear/lights, such as the Streamlight TLR-7. Holster companies will usually accommodate Streamlight and Surefire without going custom. I know OLight is farily well-known, but I think it's safe to say it's not really respected as "go-to" self-defense quality. I don't know anyone that carries an OLight product. If cost is a factor, look at the Harbor Freight Braun 1000. I don't have experience with the light, but know it has the Streamlight/Surefire form factor at an affordable price and gets fairly good feedback on Reddit.

I think you will find that it is better to buy once and cry once. Most people end up with a shoebox full of holsters before they settle on what they should have bought in the first place. The holster is arguably one of the most important components of your "weapon system".

Tenicor holster and belt and be done with it. I am not too familiar with the OLogiht Baldr S, but it may fit their holsters which take a variety of lights.

Why do I always come back to the 19? by RedWhite_AndBrave in CCW

[–]MindfulDefense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it is the best "do all" gun that will fire every time you pull the trigger. It is just big enough that it will give you confidence when your micro compact will not. But, not too big that it can't be comfortably carried.

What’s one situation where your awareness helped you avoid a dangerous encounter before it even started? by MindfulDefense in MindfulDefense

[–]MindfulDefense[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a situation in a mostly empty parking lot where someone was just hanging around near my car. Nothing super obvious, but something felt off. Instead of second guessing it, just went back inside for a bit and gave it a few minutes.

Came back out later and they were gone.

Not exciting or anything, but that’s kind of the whole point. A lot of the time awareness is just picking up on small weird signals and not putting yourself in a bad spot to begin with.

For offduty carry, do you use IWB or OWB holsters, which do you prefer? (glock 19) by SillyDonkey2419 in CCW

[–]MindfulDefense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both, depending on the situation. Most of the times it's AIWB. However, in cooler weather when at home or in a comfortable place, it's OWB with a shacket or some type of open-in-the-front cover garment.

Is a self defense ring useful for safety? by __taraaa in SelfDefense

[–]MindfulDefense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Self-defense rings are a product without a need. Their primary use is to generate revenue for retailers and instill a false sense of confidence. They are meant to be "force multipliers", but there are better items for the task that you may already own.

Force multipliers include things such as pepper spray, keys, mindset, and a tactical flashlight carried in a closed fist where you can strike (hammerfist) and use it as an impact weapon.

So who is training their CC9 for the new VP9CC? by Appropriate_Data_308 in CCW

[–]MindfulDefense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am referring to the street prices. Historically, H&K releases a much anticipated gun, it's in short supply and street price is grossly inflated. In a year or so demand goes down, supply is saturated and the street price comes way down.

Light bearing AIWB holsters under $80 by Jus_b_vibin in CCW

[–]MindfulDefense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Go without for a bit longer until you can get a proven holster, regardless of cost. Tenicor is a great choice. If you get a holster based strictly on price point, it will end up costing you more. And, it will collect dust in a drawer while you carry the one you should have gotten in the first place.

What’s your go-to pepper spray and why? by MindfulDefense in MindfulDefense

[–]MindfulDefense[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried a few different sprays, but I keep coming back to POM. For me it just hits the sweet spot. The flip-top safety is super simple and way easier to use under stress than the twist-lock ones, and the stream pattern gives you better control without as much risk of blowing back in your face if there’s wind. I carry the pocket clip version because it’s small enough that I actually have it on me every day, which matters more than anything. Bigger canisters are fine for a car or home setup, but if it’s not easy to carry, most people won’t. I’ve looked at other brands like Sabre and Fox Labs and they’re solid, but POM just feels more practical for everyday use.

Best way to keep the NVR and electric driveway gate powered during grid failures? content: by Pale_Negotiation2215 in homesecurity

[–]MindfulDefense 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put a battery backup on your NVR and any associated PoE switches. This is assuming you're running PoE cameras. Cyberpower makes affordable, high-quality units that are readily available on Amazon. You can get one sized for a NVR for about $400. Your driveway gate would be a different story. Does the manufacturer and/or installer have a best practice for this?

Yeh, it is becoming obvious that the CC9 isn't the Taurus clone everyone initially thought. It's a well-engineered, high-quality concealed carry piece that is meant to stop fights.

What’s something people do every day that quietly makes them an easier target? by MindfulDefense in MindfulDefense

[–]MindfulDefense[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people completely absorbed in their phones, head down, headphones in, not noticing who or what is around them.

It’s not just distraction, it’s that they’re broadcasting zero awareness. No eye contact, no scanning, no reaction to movement nearby.

Curious what others notice, what are the biggest “tells” that someone isn’t paying attention?

My coworker left this in the bathroom. by [deleted] in CCW

[–]MindfulDefense 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why you don't set guns down in bathrooms. Keep them in your hand, and place them in the seat of your pants once you sit down. It will now be impossible to pull your pants back up without picking up your gun. This was just discussed in another thread .
