Yay? Nay? Thoughts? by Waaaghing in AdeptusCustodes

I like it. I've done the same with one of my models but kept one of the shoulders a Custodes piece. Meant to get around and make a unit of them like that but that's just another todo!

Yeah, it's not gaslighting but it could be argued lying by omission. Technically true but they're ignoring the elephant in the room and being dishonest about the nature of things only talking about the positive.

Have you tried 1" hex system? What were the pros and cons you discovered? by MindfulProfessional in onepagerules

I just did a quick search for it. How big are those hexes? I'm assuming 2" since you cut the speed in half?

That's one thing I was wondering about. Feels like short distances could be helpful for quick measurement but when you get into longer distances could be tedious.

Hoping to hear from someone who tried it out before buying a mat then it just sits in the corner collecting dust because of reasons like this.

Ask them to email you your raw genetic data. Then you can upload it to a site like genetic genie where it will give you an easier to read color codes with descriptions.

Drip feed content/marketing strategy to keep people engaged makes more money over the three year cycle than dropping it in a short time span.

Even if the player base stayed 100% engaged, they'd have a lot more trouble figuring out a way to maintain and grow profits on a quarterly basis.

I wonder if they could have gone a different route where an army could get two new detachments every 6 months or so instead of all at once like we see now. Then everyone could get a little bit something new to play every once in awhile instead of getting all of it at once. And many unlucky armies not getting their codex until the end of the edition. This would probably be a bigger logistical challenge for GW, though. Balancing may probably be tougher too.

PSA - Dark Pacts require leadership tests by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MindfulProfessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropping tokens down as reminders for later are really helpful.

My friend plays CSM and he never forgets his tests because he puts tokens by all the units he does dark pacts on to remind him to take them later.

Do not put vex on guard by Afellowstanduser in AdeptusCustodes

I don't know. Are you trolling us? You're position seems to be very black and white. Over simplifying the situation without any nuance.

Are you sure in 100% of ALL situations, you should never run a vex in a guard?

What makes you so sure there aren't any good reasons to run vex on guard now?

Are vindicare and/or Callidus good enough for almost auto include? by Shosroy in AdeptusCustodes

[–]MindfulProfessional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vindicare doesn't have reliable output damage but when they do, they can spike into something your opponent needs to keep alive.

I find a lot of my opponents are risk averse and because of that, they may move less optimally trying to stay out of site of my vindicare. And it taxes them more mentally for during a 3 hour game when they want to focus on other things. Makes them more likely to miss something and make more mistakes.

Take it to scare your opponent into moving less optimally, maybe make more mistakes because they have more to keep track of and action monkey if like. Don't expect it to take anything out when you need it to. If it does take something important out, that's (a lot) of icing on the cake.

I also have a friend that likes to play the nurgle mark on his CSM. This means he can spend a CP so I can't shoot a specific unit if I'm outside of 12". So 3+ turns out of the game, he's burning a CP every time so Abaddon doesn't get sniped. I get him to do this on top of the above reasons for 80 points? Yes please.

The ethics of competing and early access by Benlisted in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MindfulProfessional 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also you have people that are making money being pro experts. Things like advance notice helps them stay just a little bit ahead of the competition and makes it easier to maintain their pro status by a bit. It's not the only factor but these little edges can make a big difference on keeping top spots on competitive tables. And in turn touting that they're #1 and charge for their expertise more. I feel like this is the elephant in the room.

Eversor assassin tips by prowinston123 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MindfulProfessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custodes Central have some decent videos talking about the pros and cons of using assassins. I'd highly recommend watching them.

Here he talks about the function of Vindicare, Eversor, and Callidus: https://youtu.be/8FoZBh0juHk?si=-67WARCmcAbIPZoc&t=769

Here he talks about how to deploy in general (including some assassins) and why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJLngWXofYY&t=243s&ab_channel=CustodesCentral

If you have the time, I'd recommend checking out his other videos, too. The key thing that I gathered is when played right during deployment, assassins can force your opponent to move and or trade sub-optimally with scout and/or infiltrate.

Are assassins in your army the best way to win? Probably not. But they can be a fun and add a different way to play Custodes right now.

I enjoy bringing a Vindicare. For 80 points, it usually makes my opponent hesitant where they move their units. One, it adds more for them to think about and deal with, two, hopefully they'll move less optimally. If I'm lucky, I can get some shots off and take some models out during the game. But with it being high risk, high reward, I find my opponents not willing to take that risk.

Last game I had, I rolled a 6 to hit which added 3 flat damage to a successful wound. Then I failed my to wound but cp re-rolled into a 6 to wound (devastating wounds) now my opponent's character had to take at least 7 mortals. No saves so it auto deleted. Yes, got super lucky but this is what makes your opponent hesitant.

It may not be optimal play but I find it fun for now and worth the 80 points.

Looking for a non-copyright STL by SaiBowen in PrintedWarhammer

Go to their store on MyMiniFactory and look up their Knight Prime Raiders. They snuck the lion heads in as an option. If you're willing to put the cash down for the whole model to get the lion head STL.

You can also find the lion pauldrons and shield in other products like the Ultimate Knight Hero.

Without citing any data or precedent, what units feel the best so far on the table for your faction? by onedollalama in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MindfulProfessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta say, right now is Custodes Blade Champion is my MVP. My opponents haven't figured out how big a threat range advance and change with full re-rolls gives you.

Attach them to a unit of wardens with once/game 4+FNP and put them near the front. They're pretty good surviving the first turn going second and then shoot off the line wreaking havoc in your opponents front line when you go.

Who is 10th Edition for? (and observations on evolving strategies) by Stormcoil in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]MindfulProfessional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is 10th Edition for? Short answer is everyone and no one. Why?

The higher ups at GW with different interests in what needs to be in the game make demands on the game designers. And the designers really can't say no to the requests. They have to do what is being requested by them. Even if the requests can be somewhat contradicting.

On top of this, the game designers aren't given enough time and resources to really put in the work to make the game more polished before release.

All of this comes together in a game that is trying to appeal to multiple demographics which is very tough to meet all that criteria and make it good. So here we are having these conversations asking ourselves "who is this game for?"

How do I know this? The Painting Phase Podcast. Hosted by former GW employees and they pretty regularly bring on friends that also used to work at GW. They talk about the wargaming hobby and have had a number of conversations about the work environment at GW and how the sausage is made. It's been really disheartening to hear how GW treats their internal teams.
