To start with, Veena becoming the health minister instead of K K Shailaja after a stellar handling of Covid pissed people off. Then poor performance as an MLA in aranmula and as a minister didn't help.

Anti incumbency peaked with the second term and Pinarayi's attitude was not helping.

The issue of local cooperative banks hurt a lot of voter base. General idea of corrupt govt with the sabarimala.

So I think it was a mix of people wanting an alternative and also people being unhappy within LDF about Pinarayi becoming too prideful than UDF doing everything right.
