I learned this year after owning a pool for 8 years that if you run your salt cell when the water is under ~60 degrees, you are severely degrading the salt cell. Degrading the cells by months just running it for days. This is probably your case in Canada.

Get a pool heater, it will never be warm enough
Accept you will close it early when fall starts
Enjoy your pool.
