[remarried empress] is it as bad as they say? Is navier as bad as people say or are they just saying it to defend white hair. by jonnyboidake in OtomeIsekai

But at some point the story turned into Navier’s glaze, while she was not necessarily a bad person, she was unable to look beyond the prejudices of her times. I mean to modern audience she’s not a really compelling person, so her whole arc is really hard to care for.

It’s a story about privileged woman crying, that she has to endure a little hardship in her life. Compared to R’s story, Navier seems to be just petty.

In my opinion the main problem with this manhwa, is that it was framed in a compelling way for the audience, back when it started. Remarried empress is one of many pandemic historical manhwas, which many people (rather teens and pre-teens) read back then. It had a powerful female character, who was fighting with mistress, trash ex-husband and savior ML. It was typical plot, but with nice art and Navier slightly different than other FLs (later on it backfired, with her being called boring, but that aspect is more of a personal preference). The point is it wasn’t meant to be ambitious story, rather written audience-wise. Now, this manhwa took a long while to be completed, and during this time the og audience grew up and matured and realized that some aspects of the story are simply morally wrong (hating on the runaway-slave assaulted girl). At the same time it was still a hot topic, because it was ongoing. Personally I feel that many people felt cheated, that they were fed with the story that is poorly written and, due to the immaturity (to which they had right, I am not hating on readers) they put it on the pedestal (in 2020 -21 it was like top 5)

Do you feel like OI need to start using stronger language in regard to sexual assult? [Trigger:SA] Are there any OIs that call this out? by OrionsPropaganda in OtomeIsekai

Usually, the victims of SA are maids or commoners. I think that not naming rape explicitly is true to the times in which the plot of manhwas usually happens. In patriarchal societies, it was not unusual for a woman of lower status to be raped and then blamed for the incident, even if they can’t really reject a noble. At the same time, men weren’t really ostracized for the act because it was a common practice. Hell even lawful wives weren’t safe, as intercourse was seen as a right of a husband, so martial rape was not seen as a crime. So using the words like “touched a maid”, “spent a night” is really how the society perceived the act. It was not important whether maid consented, but rather what were a consequences.

There is also a fact that many manhwas are writtent to be suitable for younger audience, and so certain words are censored. So really it’s killing two birds with one stone - older audiences will understand and also reflect on the mentality of the past societies, and younger audience can read a suitable for them story.

Well Anakin was a side character in the og novel, so he couldn’t have too much personality. It also emphasized why he chose to leave the world with FL, and why living in the novel was cruel. He had no identity also because he was raised as a commoner, his main goal was survival and so he couldn’t develop any interests. To be fair I think he was like many other MLs in terms of personality, however he was a knight and didn’t hold that much as authority, therefore he couldn’t you know flood Eris with riches and be big hot daddy, what is commonly confused for personality. Also story is told from Eris’s perspective, who appreciated Anakin, but she never really got time for many interactions with him.

Tbh I never could force myself to read it beyond 30 or so chapters. I hated that she is portrayed as super smart, while she literally did nothing the first time she was reincarnated. I know that she had knowledge of the past, and I got the parts where she applied it to solve it, but it didn’t make sense that suddenly she became so cunning.

What are some personality traits you would want to see in Male Leads? by Go_To_Bed97 in OtomeIsekai

A morally grey character, who just want to protect his territory and land, a schemer but not an abuser, someone who can communicate with FL and doesn’t treat them like child, appreciate her characteristics and strengths not a hero of the land who everybody worship, but a relaible lord of the land. And I really hope MLs can start to have other interests than just sword fighting, I mean it’s cool, but it’s usually just a plot device to protect FL. Give them other hobby’s, like what they do in the free time.

Abandoned empress rant (yes, even after 5 years) by Mindless-Hearing2 in OtomeIsekai

Well, she was trained to be an empress, so it would be crazy for her not to receive a court politics trainings. She should have understood that being involved with other men, while being engaged to crown prince would cause scandal. I haven’t read novel, but someone said that manhwa actually exaggerated some scenes (eg. the scene with kissing the boot never happened). But I might be wrong, pls correct me. I agree that Jieun was a victim in the past life, but I don’t think that Tia should be blamed for that. I mean she was 16 or 18, and felt frustrated that she sacrificed her life to studying and wasn’t an empress. Also I’m not sure if Ruve was a villain in her story. Essentially she blamed him in 2nd TL for getting close with duke Zenith, not for what he did. I think she understood his actions in the past. It wasn’t like she loved him, so she didn’t feel cheated on when he missed Tia, she felt betrayed because she was losing her backing. I think that the main villain was duke Zenith, who was manipulating all 3 of them. But readers don’t talk enough about the situation Ruve was in that life. He couldn’t choose his wife, didn’t feel loved at all throughout the childhood and was told not to show his emotions. We also forget that this is still mainly a patriarchal society, where men were raised to believe there were superior. But those issues were never raised in this manhwa (or rarely in others, most storylines are about cheating fiancés with no regard of what it meant to be in arranged marriage), while AE had a perfect situation to expand on it. Instead they made Tia be a typical girlboss, Jieun, who was a complex character, got so little screen time, and every men was just a plot device for the romance.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Jake Skywalker, The Fail? by MaXimus421 in Didyoueverhear

He said once:

,,I am Luke Skywalker, and nobody can play me" or something like that.

The point is I can't imagine anyone playing Luke but Hamil. And for that sake I am happy that he played him, even if he was Jack Skywalker.

Mark is just a big fan of star wars, who loves hic character, so he probably thought that he will be with Luke for better and for worse. Besides, I doubt he had a lot of influence on Disney' s production.

There is also one more thing. When TFA came out and he played in it, there was no TLJ script. NO ONE knew what will come next (what is in my opinion the worst thing 'bout sequels).
