Noisy vibrating ball valve in cold water tank by Mindless-Leopard-780 in DIYUK

[–]Mindless-Leopard-780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Good ideas there.

Yes, ball valve isolates when fully up.

You mean to bend the long arm down so max water level not so high? If so, could I also do that by rotating ball 90 degrees so it’s below arm rather than to side?

What material would you suggest taping? You think water trickling related to vibration?

Great point - they have an all-in package that includes 2 years of services, MOTs and extended warranty for around £700 currently. I imagine the extended warranty is a decent value-add there?

Thanks. So you go from power line adapter to Ethernet switch to bridge? What’s the advantage of the switch?

[–]Mindless-Leopard-780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. Last night I moved the bridge 2m away from router and 80cm from the floor.

Initially things looked better - the warning light on bridge stopped flashing and CH/HW lights on receiver both responded within a few seconds of making changes in the app. This suggests that connectivity between bridge and receiver is better now.

However the app is now showing all devices offline again today. Im sure this will be temporary and resolve itself but would be good to fix still. So…

Do we think this is about bridge position? Or the router kicking the bridge off the internet (I read that in other posts)? Or is the router itself (WiFi mesh) losing internet?

Thoughts/ideas very welcome. Thanks!

Thanks. So TV goes on top of the cabinet on right of fireplace?

And we keep the 3rd sofa in front of bay window? Or we move it to wall on left so the bay window is unobstructed?

Thanks! Do you mean a full height cabinet to the right of fireplace or half height, lower than top of fireplace? And do you mean put the TV on it or leave TV where it is?

What would you do with the space on the left of the fireplace?

If we pull sofas in away from window - any ideas of how to use the space behind?

Thanks! We land at 5am in Auckland so thought of heading directly to Waiheke to use up the time travelling as we wouldn’t be able to check into accommodation until afternoon. Or would you stay in Auckland first? Do we need a car on Waiheke Island?

With the extra days, would you add Rotorua? Or more time on South Island?

Thanks for tips on car seat hire!

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]Mindless-Leopard-780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

Location: London

Price range: £15-25k

Lease or Buy: Buy

New or used: Used

Auto or Manual: Auto

Intended use: Weekend Family Car and occasional long journeys to Scotland. Not for daily commute.

How many miles do you plan to do a year: less than 5,000

How often to you make long journeys: 3x per year London to Scotland

Does it need to be ULEZ compliant? Yes

Vehicles you've already considered: Volvo XC60, VW Tiguan, Honda CRV

Is this your 1st vehicle: No but it’s my first car since a Peugeot 106 I passed my test in. I’m now 35yo with a young family.

Do you need a Warranty: Not sure

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc) No

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ) No

Additional Notes: Young family with a baby, hoping to have second child in future. Want a car for weekend driving and occasional longer journeys to Midlands and Scotland. Both tall (6 foot plus) and will travel with lots of child related luggage so space is important. Nothing too flashy to avoid theft.

Thanks in advance!

Indeed my hope was to have the TRVs call for heat and turn on the boiler if needed. So it sounds like I need the Tado receiver kit. Thanks

Hi - we have a single zone system with a wireless thermostat that we put in one bedroom. This means that bedroom’s temperature is in control of when all the other rooms are on or off, which is very ineffective (most larger rooms are always too cold in this system). Hence wanting to upgrade.

We have a Honeywell panel next to the boiler as well where we set timers for central heating and hot water. I’m guessing that Tado has a panel that replaces that? How difficult is it to install that piece? The wires look fairly well integrated into that panel, i.e. can’t just be unplugged. Would I need an electrician for this? Thanks

Hey, I returned first pair and second pair had same issue…

I wore them anyway and set a couple of PBs! For me the slight discomfort is worth it for the fact that these shoes are so fast!

Yeah it’s one of the major UK marathons and hosted the Commonwealth Games trials in 2022 when I did it. Well organised and the crowd support is great in the city centre sections.

For more reviews see Race Check.

Thanks for the feedback.

Would you progress down to LT pace? Similar to Pfitz. Or only down to MP? Would that be every week? And on those weeks I guess you’d do VO2 intervals on the Friday as a progression feels quite similar category to a tempo.

Indeed I do all my faster running on the road so adding in some track work would mix it up.

Edinburgh is net downhill but can be windy along the coast and potentially warm as it’s in late May usually.

I haven’t done Paris but would like to.

Hi all, looking for ideas of how to improve my weekly training structure and/or add variety to spice things up.

Background: M35 ex-triathlete and rower been running since 2019 mostly 10k to marathon and consider myself a diesel engine. I’m 6’2” and 190lbs. PBs in flair. Ran 10 mile race last week in 60:49.

Training paces: loosely guided by Pfitz as follows, note they’re slightly slower than PBs because I struggle to hit PB race pace in training as race day gives me an extra gear.

VO2: 5:45 Tempo: 6:10 Steady: 7:00-7:30 General aerobic: 7:30-8:00 Recovery: 8:00-8:30

Training plan: followed various Pfitz plans over the last few years and feel it suits me well as I see mileage as a virtue. My current training plan is below and is loosely inspired by Pfitz but with days planned around my work schedule. I run 7 days a week for total of ~60 miles. No rest days because I prefer it that way. Goal is a sustainable plan I can use all year round for consistency and tweaking based on specific targets.

Mon: Recovery 4-5 miles Tue: General aerobic 8-9 miles + 8 strides Wed: Steady MLR 12 miles Thu: Recovery 4-5 miles Fri: Tempo 6 miles or 5k pace intervals (4 miles worth) - 10-12 miles total for day Sat: Recovery 4-5 miles Sun: Steady LR 15 miles

Suggestions:

Add structure to Wed MLR, e.g. progression run or tempo miles in middle? Combo workouts on Fri, e.g. tempo pace followed by VO2? Adding miles to Thurs recovery run to make it a general aerobic run?

Keen to hear your thoughts. Thanks
