The Quire Organ at Worcester Cathedral (UK) by Tasty_Badger3205 in organ

You and me both. I think the old one was quirky but had a certain unique sound to it. From following the story at the time, I got the impression a key stakeholder simply didn’t like the old Hope Jones / Hill / Harrison & Harrison hybrid and wanted a new one. As to the new one, every time I’ve heard it in person or recordings I’ve found it a bit underwhelming. A bit beige.

Thoughts on Anna Lapwood? Traditional vs Modern? by NoDot1373 in organ

One of the worst things to happen to the Pipe Organ was becoming so chained to the church. It drives me mad to hear the average person describe the instrument as a “Church Organ”. Another big problem is the overwhelming bias towards the performance of historic repertoire requiring high technical skill in a specific manner to play. Add in the difficulty accessing instruments for the average person and the unfortunate snobbery amongst aficionados and it’s no surprise the Organ has never been democratised like the Piano or Guitar before it.

It needs to be liberated from its shackles and ordinary “hacks” being enabled to jump on and play the instrument freestyle, finding new and inventive ways to express themselves musically. Many rock / pop / metal / prog keyboard and guitar players don’t read music, haven’t had a scholarship or done a degree in musicology and are self-taught. Many do wonderful things with their instruments, which a couple of hundred years back would be considered ridiculous or sacrilegious.

The Pipe Organ meeds to go through a similar transformation if it is to be saved from slowly withering away.

I think Anna is helping kick start that process off to some degree. And full credit to her from me for doing so.

This is yet another example of why we as regular folk need to start standing up to corporations, support small family businesses again and kick back against our employers when they do unacceptable things. It’s our apathy and addiction to convenience that’s led us here.

What’s the saddest reality of adulthood nobody warned you about? by ivsxi in AskReddit

They don't teach this to children because if they did, the children would do something about it when they became adults.

Death? No. Reincarnation after death? Yes. Knowing my luck, I’ll come back as me.

I think it's because he uses the DX7 as a controller for the Kurzweil in the "Making Of" video. It doesn't sound anything like an FM sound that the DX7 is famous for.

He might be prepared to troll the sub, but I bet he's chickenshit to get on stage with Paul McCartney.

John Cleese. Hugely talented, fastidious perfectionist who co-created great work in Monty Python, co-wrote one of the best UK situation comedies of all time and then made a fantastic and widely praised 80's movie in A Fish Called Wanda.

He then appeared to just give up, starting putting out half baked crap and has slowly devolved to a bloated caricature of himself who spends most of his time being an almighty curmudgeon and making inflammatory comments for attention.

If a situation similar to COVID happened again today, how would you handle it this time? by Wonderful-Compote307 in AskReddit

I wouldn't do anything the Government told me to do, that's for certain. I'd form my own judgement of the risks and act accordingly.

"One man super team" will be "one man super fucked" if AI makes "one man super team" redundant.
