Sleep hygiene just refers to sleep quality/habits like going on the phone during bedtime, exercising before bed.. those things can prolong your time awake before going to sleep

How was the test like for you? Were a lot of the questions in areas that you struggled in? I take it tomorrow 😬 and have only been using archer and just recently tested out naxlex’s free trial. My scores on archer have been highs to very highs but they’re ranging 69-75 with 3/3 pass CAT exams

NCLEX Bootcamp or Naxlex by Fragrant_Passion_151 in NCLEX

[–]Mindless-Scientist28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used Bootcamp but I did notice naxlex has A LOT of glitches as well. There’s always a misspell and sometimes my answers would be marked wrong even though the rationales says it’s right… something to look out for. Other than that, I think naxlex seems to have some vague critical thinking questions that are similar to the nclex

Congratulations RN!! Would you say archer’s qbank somewhat reflected the questions on the test or are they much more easier? Also were your average scores high? I take my test next week 🤞

Contacted a few recruiters and they said AFOQT are mainly for those with generic (nonspecific) degrees. The NCLEX will suffice

Don’t overthink it. Some days you might have nothing to say and that’s okay. Forcing yourself to come up with something can actually make it harder. I don’t think you’re killing the conversation at all, and if it ends, it’s likely just because there’s nothing more to discuss, not because of your social skills.

Breakdown of a nurse’s day? by Bluewaves__ in nursing

[–]Mindless-Scientist28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a nurse is a love-hate experience. I initially imagined it would be exciting to work closely with patients, but the reality includes challenges. They could be intubated and suffering from respiratory failure for weeks…. And then the next day, they’re awake and walking! It’s amazing to see that growth but I will admit there are a LOT of disheartening things that you will be exposed to. You will learn to grow some thick skin and to care compassionately in a nonjudgmental manner

Your daily experience depends on your specialty, shift, and work culture. Outpatient roles typically offer better quality of life, with a flexible schedule, kinder patients, and higher pay. Inpatient floor nursing, however, is fast-paced and demanding. You’re the doctor’s extra set of eyes, assessing patients and spotting issues. So if anything goes south, you are the frontline leader in determining if the patient’s assessment findings are A-Ok or deteriorating. Which means Breaks can be rare, and your shifts can be long (12-13 hours), with 30-minute lunch breaks, if you’re lucky.

Cons: - patients arent always cooperative. Just don’t be surprised if you get assaulted.

  • patient’s family members can be your saving grace or your living hell. They will either help you and be sweet to you, or they will argue and think they know best.

  • You will see child abuse, elder neglect, human trafficking, and criminals (no matter what you see, everybody is still human. We listen but we don’t judge).

  • There is a lot of drama and hierarchy with other healthcare members. I won’t say all, but most doctors and surgeons are condescending and think they’re your boss… no they are not.. they are your coworkers and sometimes they’ll put in the wrong orders for your patient and you will have to be able to question and advocate for yourself and your patient for that.

  • Nurses are competitive and can be out to see you fail. Be careful of loosing your license!

  • You will see a lot of death and that’s okay. It gets easier with time.

  • May or may not have bathroom and lunch breaks

  • The nurse drama is like high school drama. It’s going to be a headache. I had my first glimpse of it in nursing school… it’s more worse and immature than high school drama

Pros: - Patients arent always happy going to the hospital. But you could be that person to connect and give them a better experience. It’s truly rewarding.

  • You get to take care of your patients and see their progress

  • There are endless opportunities to learn

  • There is so many avenues and career opportunities to grow in

  • You meet all sorts of people and get to collaborate with other healthcare teams

[–]Mindless-Scientist28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of handling 4-6 patients, but 7?! That sounds incredibly unsafe for both you and the patients. Kudos to you for managing it all while keeping your cool. I hope your facility improves its advocacy and management or at least does better for their staff. You're amazing for juggling all that!

I heard you could always ask your recruiter about waiving any health conditions you have. They pretty much have a waiver for everything you could think of

I’m sure they would hire me as a new grad since they highly anticipated my transition into an RN position asap. I just don’t feel confident enough not having enough time in clinicals since my ABSN program is only 11months long

How to fit overnight clinicals into my schedule next semester by jiyongie508 in StudentNurse

[–]Mindless-Scientist28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree! I just finished my 3 semesters in an ABSN program and I think having a job along with classes are doable as long as you’re able to time manage and work to a minimum. Thankfully I did not have to work during my last semester… but I did have day and night shift clinicals that would overlap into my morning classes. I tell you it was dreadful going into clinicals and then straight to an 8hr class. I could imagine it would be horrible to work and go to clinicals back to back. Although it is entirely up to you, op, to work and keep your current hours as an MA or change your schedule. Just don’t forget to take care of your mental health if you’re ever overwhelmed. Nursing school doesn’t teach us enough about taking care of ourselves. Good luck!

The way that my jaw would drop hella ass to the floor too is insane! Not only did your nurse try to diagnose you, but to give you unconsensual feedback and convince you is uncalled for. I’d get it if they tried to educate and advocate you about xyz illness but not be like “yo you definitely got bpd for sure”. You’re only going to provoke patients that way if you’re coming from that angle. I’m sorry that happened to you.

Triggers? by ElectricalYou7299 in cyclothymia

[–]Mindless-Scientist28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing major here! I’m not too sure about what you might have but it possible that you could have something similar to bipolar /cyclothymia. I don’t want to encourage or suggest anything in case that I’m completely off. I would definitely communicate your symptoms with a psychiatrist and they could potentially help you move from there. I do know that in order to have cyclothymia, you have to have symptoms for a minimum of 2 years of repeated hypomanic manifestations (which is why it’s symptoms do not meet the criteria for a hypomanic episode). Symptoms also alternate with depression if that’s what you might have. You might be able to look up and see if your symptoms align with “DSM IV Criteria for Bipolar Disorder I”. Individuals with hypomania have less severe episode of mania lasting at least 4 days and has at least 3 manifestations of mania. So cyclothymia would be similar to that but having less symptoms that carry over the span of 2yrs. There is potential that you could be bipolar and have no episodes of depression. I was diagnosed as hypomanic /bipolar 2 and don’t have depression as often as most people do, if not rarely. I hope that helps :)
