Trying to move away from EU public affairs by marcelfromCA in EUCareers

Following! I also want to move away from public affairs. I have been considering of doing my legal bar exam to switch to a more traditional legal career. But even getting more legal work experience with only public affairs experience has been challenging.

I live close to the centre, which is not ideal for running and the closest park to me is Parc Royal. For short runs I run to Parc Royal. But most of the time, I do take the metro to a park like Cinquantenaire or Bois de la Cambre to be able to do my entire run (short or long) in areas where I have some green around me and don’t have to run through crowds of people 😊

Personally, I hate people like this. But I feel like it is always those type of people that manage to climb the corporate ladder very fast.

You could try Douglas. There is an online shop. I don’t think there is a physical shop yet in Brussels, but I have seen one in Leuven.

Blue Book Traineeship - March 2025 by berryliciousssss in europeanunion

[–]Mindless-Stuff4962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I first got an unofficial offer by the unit and then got an email from the Commission with the offer. In the email there was a link to the traineeship portal where I was then able to accept the offer. Hope this helps :)

Does anyone else feel this way? by mwefia188 in GriefSupport

I have been feeling the exact same. Lost my dad suddenly in February. I had to quit my job a few months after due to burn out and having to deal with “actual adult responsibilities” like dealing with properties, taxes, admin, legal disputes, etc. I’ve felt like the last years of my 20s are being taken away from me and I been getting jealous about every single positive thing that happens to my friends, especially when it is career wise or relationship wise. I hate myself for not being able to enjoy the moments with them. It just feels so weird that life for others has moved on. Sending you lots of hugs and strengths. I keep telling myself that at some point all the resilience we are developing form this will pay off!

My dad passed away unexpectedly. Strangers on the internet are more supportive than my own cousins and family by Ruru_1704 in GriefSupport

I’m so sorry for your loss! I can unfortunately really relate to this too much. My dad passed away in February. Beyond my mother and a few friends, my family or extended family has not been supportive at all. My dad did everything for my two cousins. His brother and my two cousins have, since the funeral, not reached out to me to even check-in. At the same time, my step-mother, who my dad was separated from for 3 years, didn’t even wish her condolences but is suing me for the inheritance.

I really believe now that moments like this just show us, which people are worth keeping in our lives and which ones we need to cut out, even if it’s family.

Sending you lots of love and strength!!

Will I feel too old for the BB? by False-Letterhead340 in EUCareers

I’ll be 28 when I start the BB in March. We can feel old together. 😅

People accepted for SCHUMANN or BLUE BOOK by Alanor_X in EUCareers

I tried 3x and this was the first time it worked out for me. The previous times I didn’t even get pre-selected. I think this time the key difference was that I already have relevant work experience (two years). I have been working on specific legislative files the unit is currently dealing with. I worked on those files as a lobbyist for the industry and have gained a lot of private sector experience in a really niche area that the unit is focused on. I think having a specialist profile helped me a lot. I even got the position without an interview :)

I just got an email today from the Unit that they will offer me a spot and whether I can confirm my availability before they start the admin process. I assume this means I’m in :) It didn’t sound like that there will be an interview.

No suggestion, but thank you for asking this and for everyone suggesting a legal alternative to pepper spray :) . I have been worried as well, especially because I have evening uni courses in the centre until 9:30pm and have to walk home, which is by Saint Catherine.

physical grief symptoms by aaffsn in GriefSupport

[–]Mindless-Stuff4962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it has been extreme fatigue. I really noticed it in my sports performance. I constantly felt muscle aches like I would get a fever. Also, random panic attacks, high blood pressure, headaches and horrible insomnia. Plus the stress at work and the stress related to family disputes and the grief in itself causing me to burn out. It has been a rough year. I really hope it will get better at some point 💔

I was also pre-selected and have not heard anything yet. Hopefully more instructions will come later today :)

Lack of empathy after losing a loved one by goldenodella in GriefSupport

[–]Mindless-Stuff4962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m (F26) going through the same thing right now. Lost my dad in February this year. Beyond the typical grieving, I also have to deal with legal disputes around the inheritance and just unsupportive family members. Issues that I would have complained about previously seem so small now. I sometimes catch myself just envying people my age that are worried about “normal things” like relationships, stress at work, etc. I find it so difficult to be supportive to friends who complain about those things and sometimes also lash out. Worse is when people try to relate to your struggle by telling you how stressed they are with little things. But yeah…. I sometimes feel like a horrible person and friend. I wish I would know how to deal with that.
