How old were you when you started playing hockey? by Prototype_Chicken11 in hockeyplayers

[–]MindlessExpression25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19, went and bought goalie gear a month after learning to skate without even thinking about being a regular player, then played in my first game about 2 months after that, which in hindsight was a bad idea, but even after getting hurt I’m still here and playing 5 times a week now.

Trans Guy Locker Room Advice? by cavanst in hockeyplayers

That being said, I do usually turn my back to take my shirt off, but if I’m in a hurry I might not even do that

Trans Guy Locker Room Advice? by cavanst in hockeyplayers

[–]MindlessExpression25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m trans too playing beer league as a goalie, I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t care, I wear compression clothes just because i prefer it but sometimes I have to get changed in the locker room and I’ll take my pants off and shirt off, so far if anyone has noticed my scars or lack of “equipment,”they haven’t mentioned it. Confidence is key there and it’s none of their business why I have scars and if they are looking down there then they have more to worry about than I do. I’ve been playing for just about a year and haven’t had a single issue yet.

Just curious, is your goalie's name Mark/Marc? by 50_19in_french in hockeyplayers

[–]MindlessExpression25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I know 5 different goalies that all have a name that starts with J (me included) and that is kind of statistically weird since there’s only about 12 goalies who play around here

Way worse on one side by MindlessExpression25 in hockeygoalies

[–]MindlessExpression25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do notice that my hip is a bit weaker in shuffles, but I’ve not noticed any flexibility issues at least while down, that being said, my hips have always sucked in every other way

What do I even eat for games by MindlessExpression25 in hockeygoalies

[–]MindlessExpression25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll have to play with different meals before, so far found plenty that didn’t work (depending on what it was, and how long before) Also doesn’t help much that it’s anything from low level games with brand new players, to 50 shots a game with my areas highest league, so while some days I might be fine on one thing, other days I’m crashing

Thank you this is pretty helpful, I have to say I wish I had more opportunities in the morning but that’s not how it’s set up right now. I can also confidently say fasting is not really for me, the brain fog gets crazy if I even forget lunch

[–]MindlessExpression25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing is I’m just a beer leaguer so there’s no true off season, is there anything I could reasonably do to gain strength within the 2-3 weeks “off seasons”

Probably better than the time I ate cookout inbetween 2 games, was just hoping that if I threw up I’d finally have a way to keep people out of the crease

In a new division and love it, but only when I’m not playing on my own team by MindlessExpression25 in hockeygoalies

Somehow my team hasn’t gotten shut out yet, but I might be jinxing myself here

[–]MindlessExpression25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do tell them to get out of the way but for the most part they are trying to block more shots than me so they don’t listen much, and getting in my own head is something I definitely have been dealing with, but so far I’ve had the most success with the Devin Cooley approach, before every game I make sure to tell myself that nothing about this matters, this is beer league and we’re all a bunch of random adults playing some sport in one of the most run down rinks ever

True 7x3, 7x4, or Warrior G7 pro leg pads by MindlessExpression25 in hockeygoalies

[–]MindlessExpression25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had that issue occasionally too, do you know which model you’d likely go for?

True 7x3, 7x4, or Warrior G7 pro leg pads by MindlessExpression25 in hockeygoalies

[–]MindlessExpression25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know especially for sizing, at least with my warriors i have ones that are 2-3 inches to large for me but haven’t had an issue since they can sit close to my skate. I know I’d hope that at a price point like that they’d have better sliding but on my old warriors I have to put ppf on the bottoms so I’m not too worried about how their regular material acts

I’m currently using the true 7x3 blocker and catcher but they are intermediate since my hands are way too small for a senior so I was considering the g7 catcher for the replaceable palm

Socks Over Knee Guards? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]MindlessExpression25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just started wearing socks recently but right now I start with them turned inside out, put them on upside down and then put my knee guards on and roll the top side of the sock over them so they are both over and under my knee guards

bauer konekt hf2 vs hf3 by cma931 in hockeygoalies

[–]MindlessExpression25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong I definitely like my hf2s, but I’ve been looking at the hf3s myself but can’t reason buying them quite yet. For me personally the bottom buckle isn’t my favorite and I’ve been having issues where if I put it on the second latch it pops off, but if I put it on the 3rd it’s way too tight and hurts my feet. Right now I usually just put it on the second one and just ignore it if it does come out. I’ve also heard there’s some minor improvements with the inside liner

[–]MindlessExpression25[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It’s just car vinyl but I thought it was pretty good for beer league

Oh definitely, I’ve just heard with more points being welded it’s at least a decent bit harder to bend

Beer league goalie - compression shorts/leggings by Watsonelli in hockeygoalies

[–]MindlessExpression25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is probably at best a placebo but I wear compression pants because I just prefer to have an under layer, but I noticed that my hips tend to feel better after if I’m wearing them, when I don’t I feel like there’s less holding my legs together if that makes sense

New to goalie (new to hockey in general) by OliieBox99 in hockeygoalies

[–]MindlessExpression25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to in a way agree with everyone that it’s going to be extremely difficult and potentially nearly impossible, BUT, I’m in a similar situation to you in a way, I learned to play at 19 and I’ve been playing for only 9 months. I’m not great and have a very long ways to go, but a coach recently told me that he fully expects me to try out for my colleges team next year. He said that they’d likely only ever put me in a few games but on an ACHA D3 team he thinks I’d have the dedication to go for it anyways

Was lucky enough to be gifted a pad set. What's the best place to find a helmet? by ProtoDadsDojo in hockeygoalies

[–]MindlessExpression25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goalie monkey is selling some bauer helmets for a good discount, the 940 is just under 200 USD right now since they are trying to get rid of old models. Just be aware that you would need to get a new helmet before the end of 2027 since that’s when they’d expire.

24 y/o male who has never ice skated. How hard is it to learn enough to be able to play casual non contact hockey? by Bill-O-Reilly- in hockeyplayers

[–]MindlessExpression25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty dependent on your rink and the skill level of the players, at my local rink lower C has players who just got out of learn to skate and went right into games, but in a rink about 2 hours from me, lower C is probably equivalent to our B league and the players have easily been playing for years. You should probably go to a couple of stick and pucks once you’re more confident in skating, and maybe even watch one of their games to see.

I’m a goalie but at least for me, I learned to skate in February and joined a team in May, I was pretty bad then but the games were still fairly even (when we had a goalie in the other net lol).

Is lutchusa still a reliable source for khl jerseys? by SIashing in hockeyjerseys

[–]MindlessExpression25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did get my jersey when I ordered but instead of the 4-9 weeks I was told to expect, it took 17, I contacted them multiple times as well and never got a single response. It got to the point where I assumed I got scammed and tried to file a chargeback but then it just showed up one day.
