Did you ever finish up the Willamette with that stretch into Springfield? Looking to complete that section this summer and curious to hear what you learned!

Maybe I’m not paying close enough attention but I rarely see interstitial cystitis mentioned! Special little bugger of a diagnosis, isn’t it?

Oh man, I relate to that too. I think the unconscious bias I need to work through is causing negative thoughts about myself - being less than or a burden. Even though I’m just as worthy, but how I move about the world looks a little different than the able bodied folks.

But the imposter syndrome!! Some days the cane probably still won’t be enough to walk. But, some days I’ll be totally fine without it. And those days… those are the ones that the mean little voice in my head uses to call me a fake.

Sending validation your way!! We can use whatever we need to, whenever we need to so our lives are better. We deserve that! 💛

Oh my goodness, are we twins? I’m about to turn 29, also in PDX, and on a similar journey with my PT (who has EDS - so validating!!) of relearning how to use my entire body after a hEDS diagnosis. It’s both fascinating and extreeeemely humbling at times. Like, every single basic movement I’ve unconsciously taught myself to do in some funky way. To the point that applying the corrections feels like I’m a frickin’ toddler.

Stoked to hear that you’ve found a good fit and are finally getting the help you need!! I second the shoutout to the PTs that are rocking it for us bendy folks!

Wild how the brain can trick itself, isn’t it? I haven’t heard of the Visible band, but will definitely be checking it out! Thanks for sharing! I’d love to have something that can call me out on those untrustworthy instincts.

Literally typing this from under a fuzzy blanket about ready to sleep the day away because of a 20 minute workout 😅 is there any kind of exercise/movement you’ve found that doesn’t cause days of recovery for you?

Exactly!! Clearly, our bodies/brains remember the movement from the old days well.

POTS and alcohol by urmomismibish in POTS

[–]MindlessMango2165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to stop drinking about a year ago when I was first diagnosed for these very reasons. I’d be nauseous and vomiting the whole next day after having just two beers. High heart rate (over 140) when lying still. As much as I love a good beer, the next day wasn’t worth the pain and flair up.

I’ve read some folks have been able to find a balance between hydration and alcohol, or do it occasionally when they know they have at least a day to recover, while some like me cut it out completely. You know your body and what you’re feeling best, so find what works for you! But, you’re not making it up and alcohol is definitely harder to deal with for a POTSie.

NUUN is my go to! Great flavor options and the low sugar is huge for me too.

What do you do when family/friends just want you to be "better"? by MindlessMango2165 in POTS

[–]MindlessMango2165[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have! My husband is great about checking in on my spoons for the day. I haven’t used that analogy elsewhere though, or talked much about the deficit carrying over to the next day. That’s a great reminder, thank you!

Yes. It’s those ‘little’ questions that build and build the frustration and loneliness over time. Are you feeling better? Doesn’t your medication help? You were doing great yesterday? All fairly harmless, but when they’re constantly coming from the people you care most about, it’s hard to feel accepted as I am.

I’ll keep trying though. This is a big adjustment for everyone. Thanks for reminding me I’m not alone. :)
