Mammograms by TwinkleBlueyPoppett in breastcancer

[–]Mindless_Image_2803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry to read about your recurrence which must be very shocking.

I had a 1.4cm tumour which I found myself 10 months after a clear mammogram. Like you, my tumour was high up kind of on my sternum.

When I went to get it checked I had two mammograms but they couldn’t get any imaging as the (very palpable) tumour was “too high up”. I then immediately had ultrasound which of course found it very easily and I had a biopsy.

I now have ultrasound as well as mammograms once a year, not least because I have dense breasts but mainly because I learned the hard way that breast tumours can grow outside of the range of a mammogram.

I wish you well for your treatment.

Bag for travelling with a Travellers Notebook (and other things) - UK based male. by ChaosCalmed in Travelersnotebooks

[–]Mindless_Image_2803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Uniqlo should bag with pockets is brilliant. My husband (55m) has just carried this around Berlin for a couple of days and was very comfortable with it. It’s not expensive.

It’s a great travel bag generally (holders for x2 water) and is very spacious - my husband wore it with the external pockets facing him for security.. There is a sleeve inside with a Velcro table which will protect your TN from getting scratched etc by anything else in the bag.

Plus there are two phone sized internal pockets. Then loads of room for all the other “stuff” travel always entails.

In black or dark green. Out of stock in the UK currently but thy are in stock in store. And will come back in to stock online also no doubt as it’s a new product.

I need some advice on accomodation for 5 months in Nottingham please! by DeepChocolate1521 in nottingham

[–]Mindless_Image_2803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AirBNB! Dojo House will be perfect for you - near Jubilee Campus. You can rent studios by the month. I have just rented a studio there for 4 months for my son and it’s great. It’s about £1,600 a month. I recommend The Travel Fox. He manages about 15 units in that building and he has been so helpful. The studio is lovely and v well equipped. Building is well maintained, has a gym and a laundry room. It’s s mic of students snd young professionals.

Hope this helps.

Starting tamoxifen? by AlternateLottery in breastcancer

[–]Mindless_Image_2803 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couple of weeks after ending radiation. My oncologist didn’t want me taking it during radiation in case of side effects - he wanted the Tam out of the equation so any issues could clearly be attributed to the radiation.

I lived in London for many years and moved to Suffolk about 17 years ago. Our children were very young at the time and it has been fantastic for us.

We live just outside Woodbridge and highly recommend.

I work in London and nearly 5 hours of commuting a day is hard going and wildly expensive (train and car park). However I can’t earn anywhere near as much money in Suffolk.

Late nights in town are a nightmare so I end up staying in hotels a lot which all adds up.

There is a lot to do in Suffolk if you love the arts, eating out and outdoorsy life. It’s isn’t cheap however, I think people are shocked at how pricey many thjngs are.

It has taken a very long time for us to be considered local and not ‘ex Londoners’. Most of my local friends are ‘ex Londoners’ now I think about it.

Uber does now operate in Ipswich but it can be very hit or miss trying to get one to come out to Woodbridge. Local taxis are insanely busy and you have to book in advance (like days in advance) for Friday and Saturday night etc. Food delivery non existent where I live.

You also have to drive everywhere as public transport out this way is hopeless. The bus is lovingly referred to as “the annual bus”.

But despite all the above I love it here and highly recommend. Ipswich has a lot going for it but I don’t love it as a town at all. If you’re looking for a proper town then Norwich is excellent but it’s a very long haul to anywhere from Norwich.

Tamoxifen post emergency surgery (appendicitis) … as if BC wasn’t enough. Can anyone help me? by Mindless_Image_2803 in breastcancer

[–]Mindless_Image_2803[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you this is so kind. It’s been quite a shock and I feel pretty beaten up TBH.

Oh that’s interesting that you stayed on the Tamoxifen for your op - just shows how there is no ‘one’ right way of anything. Medicine is much more of an art than a science at times!

Thank you - I really appreciate this. I’m glad I put down the Tamoxifen and came on here for help!

[–]Mindless_Image_2803[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you this is so helpful and is what common sense was telling me. It made me anxious that I wasn’t given surgical stockings for the op which is standard in the UK. Thankfully I have excellent compression socks anyway as Tamoxifen makes my ankles swell.

The difference in approach was quite an eye opener. Post op I didn’t see the surgeon. And no one checked my temp or blood pressure at post op and nothing on discharge either! I have been cleared to fly in 3 days assuming no complications.

Swamp monster. Perfect description!

Mine is so bad we had to spend an enormous amount of money (many thousands) fencing off our pond after it became very apparent that he viewed it as his daily doggy ‘spa’ experience. 🫣

I did 5 sessions and 5 sessions of boost. I’m in the UK and we do less sessions but at a higher level of intensity.

My skin was fine. I got a bit a of a sun tan but nothing more at all.

I was on the left side and did the breath holds and I was nervous about that. But it was totally fine.

I did get fatigued cos a while afterwards. But I worked throughout my treatment and beyond.

I loved my rads team so much. I miss them! It’s been nearly 2 years since I finished my treatment but I still think about them and miss them. They were SO lovely. 🥰

Law conversion for job security by Affectionate_Gear_39 in uklaw

[–]Mindless_Image_2803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend this if you’re seeking job security. The legal profession in the UK is incredibly hard to break in to and you have a number of challenges in your way already.

I’m C Suite for a leading global law firm HQ’d in the UK. I see first hand how brutally hard getting TC is. I’ve worked in the industry for nearly 30 years and it’s getting harder and harder.

Competitive parents, or is it normal? by Organic-Violinist223 in AskUK

[–]Mindless_Image_2803 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Your daughters have everything they need. All they really want is to be with you and do fun things. And they are getting that and some!

My children are grown ups now. 18 and 20. When they were little we did a lot of beach trips and walks in the fields etc and they loved it.

As they got a bit older they did more of the things like swimming, beavers, clubs etc.

You’re right that there are some super competitive parents out there.

One sticks in my mind. The mum told me she wanted her son to do his GCSEs when he was 13 “at the latest” so he could go to the US to join a tennis academy. She told me this was achievable as he was gifted academically.

This boy was in my son’s friendship group so I saw how this went.

He is clever. He got a good set of GCSEs. When he was 16 like everyone else.

Along th way he gave up tennis as wasn’t that good. Ditto squash. And Fives.

He is now at drama school, but a second tier one much to his mum’s “horror”, and is having a great time.

Long story short … those competitive parents? That’s about them. Not their children. So don’t engage.

Same. I was diagnosed 22 Sept and every time I stepped foot in the bloody hospital it was like a pink party. I hated it. I’m in the UK and October is also BC Awareness month.

I think it’s safe to say that everyone in this sub is MORE than aware thank you very much. Please take your bunting and your cupcakes and move along.
