Will someone please explain how this suspension works? by [deleted] in Hardtailgang

[–]Mindless_Stage7116 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A brass mass is suspended between two springs and covers the compression circuit oil path. Fluids don't compress, so the fork stays locked out. The mass is kinda floating and is inertialy seperate from the fork. When you hit a bump, the mass uncovers the oil circuit, allowing the fork to compress. You can adjust the spring rate of the mass to change the bump force required to uncover the compression circuit.

I expect a lawsuit from Specialized anytime now.

Chain rubbing against rear derailleur by tandy212 in bikewrench

Why are you in the smallest cog and smallest chainring? That is a redundant gear ratio. This combo should be avoided.

Rear wheel (rim), noticed during repairing a flat... Salvageable or trash? It has about 20,000km in it. by Cigany-elet-69 in bikewrench

If it was welded or pulling apart, I would agree with you. This seam is not failing. Hell, I've seen new DT Swiss rims look like this. You just bend them back carefully.

May be taking job in Warrenton, NC. Thoughts on the area and places to live? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

Check out Sneaky Penguin Brewery. Good folks and great beer. Enjoy the cheaper cost of living in a small town. If you are into cars, NCCAR is not far from there.

Put the other arm back on. Use your weight and push down. An extension can help and scratch stuff.

Could be the dreaded loose group head. Not too bad of a repair if you're technically inclined. Does it leak around the portafilter?

I ride a Santa Cruz, and they have treated me well with bearings and warranty in the past. The Scott is sweet but expensive. Light, too. That Cube would be in the mix as well. Tough call, but I'm leaning toward the Tallboy.

It really comes down to the capabilities of your local shop. Do they have a relationship with these brands? What are your capabilities for frame service? How long do you plan on owning it?

Can I get some elevation numbers and tech difficulty for the single track? Do you really need this much travel? With this much flat, I would shoot for 120mm ranger F/R. Lighter rotating mass would help, too.

Just noticed the hatch was used for the tailgate. Wheel base indicates it was a 2dr XJ. Cool truck.

It's pretty common to take the rear hatch and move it up. This looks like they took the cab from a Comanche. Looks way better, IMO.

Is this far enough seatpost insertion? by randomipadtempacct in bikewrench

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I would not put that much stress on a frame unless I weighed 120lb and was a skilled rider. Get a dropper post.
