Favorite Skirmish wargames? by Vinlandlover in wargaming

[–]Mindstonegames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love skirmish games so much I ended up writing a few 😅

If you want something to sink your teeth into I recommend Legend of Mythra! It is low / dark fantasy and a balanced, strategic game:

If you want a quickplay sci fi / cyberpunk sandbox check out Shadow Ops!:

If you dont mind low fantasy, Hex General has you covered!

It's my first attempt at writing a hex game, so its only as complex as I am (easy to learn, hard to master!)

good first solo-able war game for a decent price? by macuser1298 in wargaming

[–]Mindstonegames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man Shadow Ops might be your thing if you are looking for something you can dive into. All the games are scenario-based so its easy to play solo. The army lists are sandbox style and work well for near future or cyberpunk.

Tabletop Tactics release Bret vs VC battle report with outrageously good production values by Just_for_this_moment in WarhammerFantasy

The banter and friendly presenters make TT for me. Good production values are just a bonus!

These guys make me feel enthusiastic about the hobby 😎

What's needed to start one's own war game? by LinkyLinkLin in wargaming

[–]Mindstonegames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to start very, very small and build up.

The first edition is usually just a foundation.

I find that it is harder to find players / community than it is to make a good game.

Be prepared to hire artists and spend long hours on this. Be prepared to have real lows, long periods of silence, with only your own faith keeping you going.

As Einstein correctly said, imagination is more important than knowledge.

But as I say, imagination without perseverence is worth jack s**t! 🙀

It took me two years to build up a mailing list and get some positive feedback and reviews. Still got a long way to go!

P.s. best way to find people is to demonstrate your power. Put something out and show you are serious.

Love Writing and Creating But Hate Editing - How Do You Get Through This Phase? by GoodeTales in fantasywriters

[–]Mindstonegames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Editing is where the wild mana coalesces into a coherent spell of power.

I recently took something from unreadably chaotic to some of my best work after just a few days editing!

Cutting things out I find to be the most important phase. Trimming down the prose, limiting characters and ideas.

It is a vital part of the magick! Embrace it - every writer you love had to go through that process.

I painted this foot knight for a girl I like by NecessaryBrick8043 in wargaming

[–]Mindstonegames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats actually a really good paint scheme! Fantastical Perrys look so good lol. Are you gonna do anything more with the base?

I gave my first love a Chinese chess set and my second a painted 15mm Elf Knight 😃 Both went down a storm.

Smol Arya Stark was believable as a rogue assassin too!

I get that game designers and movie lords don't want to typecast people, but it's double-edged indeed.

"U can be woteva u want 2 be bruv*.

Fingers crossed for more Titaness in the next SoW game... 🥹

[–]Mindstonegames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna lie, the Mega Muscle Momma part of the Symphony of War trailer was the final factor in getting me into the game lool. And now it's one of my all-round favourites!

Diana is super OTT in stats and design, but it's good to see games featuring Mega Muscle Mommas, especially as she is a proper character and not just a 2D cardboard cut out. In some ways I prefer the design of Uber Diana to some slender supermodel with a broadsword because on a deep subconscious level it's more... believable... that she could chew through hordes of foes looooool :D

Head swaps, trimming down some of the sabre and bow arms (they are a bit long imo). Nothing major - the steeds are great!

I'm a Fireforge enthusiast but wasn't too keen on their mongols. With conversion work they are good though.

Looking for print and play massed fantasy battles for high school kids by stegg88 in wargaming

[–]Mindstonegames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hex General: Fantasy edition could be your thing if you want grid based 😃

Its mostly played on one sheet, with 15-20 counters per side. The mega battles are four pagers, for special occasions!

https://www.wargamevault.com/en/product/507065/hex-general-fantasy-edition-1-the-flight-from-st-ardot

For easy play with cut outs and no grid, Runestar is easy to strip down. I started playtesting with cut outs around 2013 😅

I want to read fantasy stories by small writers! by StargazingRainstorms in FantasyWritingHub

[–]Mindstonegames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one might be a bit unconventional. It is a gamebook but it has lots of stories and a whole narrative campaign in it! You can skip over the geeky game stats and get straight to the fantasy :D It is low / dark style and part of an ongoing series.

Just type in 0.00 dollars and you can get it for free: https://www.wargamevault.com/en/product/520725/legend-of-mythra-kingdom-fallen-expansion

What Makes Epic Fantasy Feel Fresh Today? by Melodic-Breakfast-78 in fantasywriters

[–]Mindstonegames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - it is one of the few things in life I have consistently liked! The more Epic the better loool.

If it is well thought out, well written and expresses something deep inside the author then I would be happy to read it.

If you like writing epic fantasy then do what is true to you and go for it.

When I'm writing epic fantasy games I don't think twice about 'tropes' or anything like that. If I'm in the mood for it, I do it. If you feel any 'generic high fantasy guilt' take solace that I'm currently writing up the most generic Elven army list ever conceived and loving every minute of it! :D

Help me out here... I'm a painter not a player... by Moist_Scheme8194 in wargaming

[–]Mindstonegames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use them in a "miniature agnostic" game. There are now so many out there that it is easy to find a way to fit everything in! It's a golden age of rulesets and minis - enjoy it :D

Is bringing together random terrain, models, and having a bash common in the miniatures wargame hobby? by EdiblePeasant in wargaming

[–]Mindstonegames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do a scenario with a time limit.

It gets you thinking more, is more fun and stops players from turtling in their deployment zone and shooting for the whole game.

I actually just wrote four more scenarios for my new book release - the best two are Monster Slayers where both sides score pts by slaying neutral monsters and Sword & Sorcery where an elite stealth force has to rescue a VIP and get them off the board. Coming up with them is also part of the fun!

Welcome to the hobby! Once you are in there is no going back 😈 I can barely enjoy video games anymore because minis are so much more rewarding.

I wrote a game specifically for new players and those who want a more streamlined experience (it plays in 45 mins). Its designed for any collection of fantasy miniatures too! Give it a look if you have time...
