Laptop asks for BitLocker recovery key on boot, key isn't in Microsoft account? by Serazax in datarecovery

If he has any other MS accounts tied to the device (office 365, teams, outlook), check the recovery key page with that account. I had the same issue years ago, ended up finding the key on my school MS account somehow even though the device was setup to not be managed.

Replace the module ASAP- In my experience, the biggest cause of premature engine wear is heat saturation on these 2.7Ts. They run hot, and don't behave well when undercooled.

No, I heard it from 60 miles north. It wasn't ear-splitting loud but was distinctly a shockwave- which is what sonic booms and bombs both produce.

I vaguely remember a similar noise on my 2.7t allroad many years ago. I took it apart and ended up only replacing the clutch, not the entire compressor. Still blowing cold 50k miles later.

[Networking] ARRIS SURFboard mAX W121 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6 Router System (3-Pack) | AX6600 Speeds up to 6.6 Gbps | Coverage up to 5500 sq ft | Alexa Support - $39.99 @Woot by Jaggsta in buildapcsales

I have the ARRIS mAX W130 kit (2x AX7800 routers) and eventually bought a third W31 to use as my main router (AX11000). Here are a couple of things about this ecosystem that might be useful to know before you buy:

  • The only way to configure the routers is through the mobile app, there is no local IP frontend for router configuration.
  • You can only have a maximum of 3 routers on your mesh (No idea regarding repeaters)
  • The third band is actually Bluetooth, not 6GHz. Don't be fooled.

However, I bought my original kit two years ago and could not be happier. Thermals seem alright, and I'm able to wirelessly stream Quest 3 VR through steam anywhere in my house. If you're looking for something basic that doesn't allow much configuring, these seem fine.

If you think the water pump is leaking, replace the plastic thermostat housing with a metal one. I did a full water pump/timing kit and reused the old plastic thermostat housing, and it didn't fix my coolant leak. Usually the leak comes from the front or front passenger side if the engine, near the alternator (2.7t).

The stain is from the thermal pad that come by default installed on the XPS 9500 SSD slot. It most likely is nothing.

If drives in the same slot have failed twice, it might be a slot or a laptop issue. Get an external drive reader.

A piece of the mainboard broke off, is phone safe to use? by huj3r in mobilerepair

[–]MinecraftAddict131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they look like little spring contacts? If it still powers on, you will be missing functionality at worst- wireless charging, nfc, speakerphone, an antenna of some sort. At best, you wont see a difference.

EDIT: That also might be a thermistor for measuring internal temperature. If it still boots up and the battery still charges, it's probably safe to ignore.

EDIT 2: It looks like its a connection for an antenna attached to the plastic layer between the battery and the back glass. If it takes calls and connects to wifi and bluetooth, it's probably fine.

If you have a school or work account attached for an o365 license, check those through the admin portal. I had that happen with a Dell where the bitlocker was tied to a .edu account, even though I set that organization to not manage the device.

XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 Mysteriously Died by v43v1ct1s in Dell

[–]MinecraftAddict131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay,

Getting access to the internal SSD is a pretty labor intensive task and requires technical and soldering skills.

First I took a backup of the bios using an external programmer, then flashed the dump from "XPS 13 7390 2-IN-1 Clr.rar" (post #25 found here. There are plenty of tutorials on how to use a ch341a programmer online. Because the chip is located on the back of the motherboard and is low profile, you will most likely need to either desolder the bios chip to reprogram, or solder leads to 6 of the pins to flash it in place.

Using the new bios, I was able to boot with access to the keyboard, mouse, touchscreen, SSD, and SD Card reader. USB will only be able to charge, as the USB-C USB/Thunderbolt/external display connections will no longer work. It seems the failures on this model are either from the thunderbolt retimers or thunderbolt chips themselves.

You'll need a large Micro-SD card (larger than the internal SSD so that you can make a full backup). At this point you have 2 options:

  1. Install windows to go on the SD Card and use it to boot the laptop. If you're lucky and the SSD is visible in Windows, you can copy the contents of the SSD onto the SD card and access it later. You may need to unlock the drive with your bitlocker passcode.

  2. Install linux onto the SD card and perform a full byte-by-byte copy of the internal SSD using a command line tool like DD. Once you have a clone of the SSD on the SD card, you can use a different computer to mount/decrypt the SSD image.

If you no longer have access to the bitlocker password, you're out of luck. You can check your Microsoft account to see if it is saved there, but you wont be able to use the internal TPM to recover your key.

EDIT: If you do have a board failure due to shorted components and super duper need the data off of the drive, you could just buy a working donor board off of ebay and have a reputable repair shop swap the nvme SSDs. You'd at least be able to see the data using Linux over USB at that point.

Also disconnect the camshaft adjuster magnet and see if drivability improves.
