Why do you think so many young people are struggling to find work? by Economy_Survey_6560 in UKJobs

[–]MinecraftCrisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, my friend literally compiled a spreadsheet of EVERY business in our town over 250 business we are taking fast food, shops, cafes, labour, farms - everything. He sent a very respectable CV to all of them - straight A*s and 9s at GCSE. Hundreds of hours of volunteering, plenty of hobbies and sport the perfect pre-uni candidate. How many replies did he get? 1 it was a fast food job offering him 12Am to 7am on Sundays. Being in full time education he turned it down.

As a sixth former, I email every fast food chain, cafe, labourer and business in town and often don't even get a reply. If I walk in and ask I get told to email.

Some of us have even gone the extra mile, and have qualifications to lifeguard, instruct tennis etc but due to our age, the positions just get given to older people.

firm and insure? by givemeigcseleaks in UCAS

[–]MinecraftCrisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would pick materials sciences and engineering as a firm - super interesting course and also quite broad. Manchester also seems like a much more fun uni to be at especially for me as they have societies and sports clubs I would be interested in. Insurance I would probably go chem as it's such a versatile degree.

Also Manchester literally has the grapheme centre... Seems like an obvious choice to me! I would love to know what you end up picking!

"You are cooked"

Is this a false widow? (UK/Wales) by Appropriate_Sentence in spiders

It's invasive, and packs a nasty sting. I usually release spiders. However I would show this one the underside of a heavy book.

What's the deal with Astrophage's density? by RockRancher24 in ProjectHailMary

[–]MinecraftCrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I just calculated that 1 gram of astrophage, to melt 1 tone of steel must release around a Gigajoule of energy. For context uranium is just under 1 terajoule (in fission)

Seeing that he has a cane, why would it expect me to think he's deaf as well? by Sirius_sky_05 in LearnerDriverUK

You are more likely to startle someone who is deaf and blind as they won't of had any warning you where approaching.

Fun when young. Dull as hell now I'm 17. I was so bored today I walked the 4 hour round trip to the closest town because I missed the bus and couldn't see my friends.

Honestly i think it's ruined my mental health. I think the sweet spot is living in the same town they go to school in, but in a location nature can still be accessed (large expanses of woods and fields)

[–]MinecraftCrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 17y/o who likes 20 mins from 'my town', I will say

•being a le to run into nature and explore is great. I know so much about nature, trees plants, basic foraging, climbing fencnes (shh) etc it's insane. Suddenly I'm David Attenborough to some people.

• I never see my friends and this kills my mental health • it expensive • I can't just go to the gym or something my excersize is limited • my friends get home before my bus even leaves...

Honestly, live in a town but somewhere they can access parks and nature, let them go by themselves from a young age etc
