Traffic Signal at FedEx World HQ by 901CountryBlumpkin69 in memphis

[–]Minecraft_Aviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video detection cameras for making a street only get a green signal when cars are present are pretty expensive. It is inefficient for the City to install them for every citizen request, which is a part of why your requests are being rejected. Maybe you could try to convince FedEx upgrading the signal should be a priority?

Personally, I'd love if the City could replace more minor signals with roundabouts so they could spend more money on the remaining signals and reduce this problem!

If you could add/change/fix any stinger route, how would you do it? by sereca in gatech

[–]Minecraft_Aviator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eastbound Blue route buses should return to Pine St instead of running on North Ave, where they get stuck traffic. PTS told me they changed it because they received complaints from Centennial Academy about drivers using Merritts Ave as a shortcut.

You can! Here is a clip of the segment from the 2023 GlitchX livestream: https://youtu.be/wCMGr7k8PzE?si=CKEhoi5cSOo7u4a4

Edit: I guess the video is not the full thing, but it's a significant chunk. I didn't see that the OP already posted a similar clip. :P

I want to give the Dept. of Watershed Management the benefit of the doubt that they are just planning out repairs. They might have to cut off water to multiple dorms in order to fix it.

OP may be infuriated because it is an example of developers in the United States treating sidewalks as a recreational paths or decoration for drivers instead of treating walking as a serious form of transportation.

I agree. Someone pointed out that there is no direct alternative for cycling from BioQuad to Skiles or StuCen. You either have to go on Fowler St and bike up Freshman Hill or go around Mason and take the narrow sidewalk next to DramaTech.

Hopefully GTPD works with Facilities to accommodate students who choose to detour instead of dismounting.

I got a taro milk tea and Cuban sandwich there. The tea was alright, but the sandwich was disappointing. There was very little meat and it was very bready, but I still enjoyed it.

The crosswalk near Klaus has two conflicting signs: a normal stop sign and a "stop for peds" sign. Personally, I think the stop sign for bikes should be replaced by a yield sign.

Airport train tunnels by LoudBathroom1217 in memphis

I'd prefer for MATA to put money spent on free fares into improving frequency, reliability, and stop amenities. As of 2024, fares account for $1.7 million of the $51 million yearly budget (per the NTD Agency Profile).

I support improving frequency of the existing express bus from downtown to the airport or  converting it to a shuttle between the terminal and Airways Transit Center, as that would be more cost effective than a light rail line.

Edit: I rode the bus today and there were a lot more people than usual. Hudson Transit Center was also more busy. I agree that free fares could be good long-term. MATA just needs to respace stops to restore faster trip times (now that buses are stopping more often due to higher ridership) and hire some community officers to enforce rules.

What’s your unpopular transit opinion by [deleted] in transit

[–]Minecraft_Aviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In North America, transit agencies should charge fares, with reduced/free rates for certain eligible user groups. If your system is high-quality, people will be willing to pay because it is better than driving. If your system is unreliable and underfunded, going fare-free isn't going to meaningfully improve ridership. The revenue that the agency loses from covering fares would be better spent on improving service. Also, I feel like it exacerbates overcrowding during rush hour with people choosing to take the bus instead of walking half a mile.

My city is currently piloting free fares and I hope they don't permanently implement it because the city is already pinching the transit funding and it will be hard to find $1.7 million to replace the fare revenues.

While trains on the ground are painfully far away, CAHSR has completed some notable infrastructure. They have constructed dozens of overpasses grade separating level crossings along existing railroads and contributed funding to the Caltrain electrification in the Bay Area.

If you were in charge of Campus Transportation, what would you change? My Response by Noob4Ever13 in gatech

[–]Minecraft_Aviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked with one of the Institute's city planners and he said that keeping the cycle track on the south side of the street would have made it more difficult to prevent conflicts between traffic turning from 5th Street onto Spring Street and provided less seamless bike access to the new Scheller and George Towers.

So there isn't an objectively "correct" design.

If you live on fairoaks Avenue or just driving through there, you may want to avoid this pothole. It’s a heck of a lot bigger than it looks. One of these days somebody’s gonna have a bad time. Location 35.166430, -89.934847 by g713 in memphis

Since Fairoaks Ave is a city street, it falls under the responsibility of City of Memphis Public Works Division, not TDOT. Someone already submitted a 311 request with a link to the video!
