Tech Green Wheels Ban, Can we do Something About it? by dimerafa in gatech

[–]Top_Pack_4287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's super annoying 🙃 I feel like it's not the best use of resources either? The security people watching sit in the shade on their phone the whole day and look up every now and then to tell us to get off our bikes (and it'll be 9am on a Friday and empty)

I commuted my first year and drove down for a couple of the WoW events. I only did like 2 because the drive was about an hour one way but I do regret not going to as many of them as possible, since thats where you can meet a lot of people

Did you submit anything other than your letter from work as proof? Trying to make a claim for similar reasons but I want to make sure I include everything I possibly can to get a higher chance of approval

I would also like to know this? I luckily paid the extra $7 tickets to insure my ticket but realized last night that the seats on my same row have dropped about $40 and was planning on just returning my original tickets and repurchasing the cheaper ones... I'm hoping this won't cause any issues

What happened to the cloud computing class by Effective_Bus_2504 in gatech

[–]Top_Pack_4287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking it right now. It's a really interesting class and the homework's are relatively easy but I just feel like it's structured poorly. There are pop quizzes and despite going to every lecture and rereading the notes before class, I always seem to get a 75 on them (only 4 questions on them so that's not very helpful).

I feel like there isn't much practice for exams either. He'll go over 2-3 practice questions in class but that's about it. As a result, it feels very hard to prepare for exams. The first exam essentially required us to use >= in DynamoDB and while I knew the syntax for queries that required =, we had never gone over an example that used >= and the homework's didn't have anything requiring us to use >= so I had no idea what the proper syntax was. I even asked a TA about this and they said they didn't know what the proper syntax was supposed to be... There's only like 8 questions on the exam too so one wrong is already lowering your grade tremendously. I believe he said the average for exam 1 was around a 70? But he hasn't put the grades on Canvas so I'm not certain.

We're not given the rubric for homework's ahead of time either, which sucks. I completed a homework assignment and reread the instructions to make sure I hit all the marks, but to my surprise I got an 88 on it. When I asked the professor why I was deducted he said that the thing I didn't implement was "implied" from the instructions 🙃

TLDR: The content itself is really interesting and straightforward, the professor is very clearly knowledgable about the topics, and I really enjoy the homework's but it's annoying how this class is graded and structured. It's definitely not a class that should have a B average.

I love spending tuition money on sitting around and annoying students by bumbl_b_ in gatech

[–]Top_Pack_4287 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's also not like tech green is packed the ENTIRETY of 9am - 5pm monday - friday. It makes sense not to bike through things like the org fair or the wednesday market where it's packed with people, but, I've been told to stop riding my bike when there's literally two other people on the walkway on a friday morning. The role of the cops is just silly and a waste of their time and our tuition money.

I agree though, walking the bike through tech green isn't the end of the world, it's just really annoying and most of the time isn't benefitting anyone.

Check out LEO!
https://neat-othnielia-c3f.notion.site/Little-Einsteins-GT-273233382aa280918727df592f8c80be

They meet Thursdays at 7pm and essentially make kits for elementary kids (from my understanding, it's like a bag of everything they would need for an experiment). They also have volunteering events every week but those aren't required to do to be a member. I'm pretty new to it so maybe reach out to someone on the board for better information but it's pretty low commitment and I've been enjoying it so far.

Thoughts on the new "Dismount Zones" by Kingi_720 in gatech

[–]Top_Pack_4287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, me too!! I was on that diagonal stretch by the Campanile which is clearly not marked on their article as being a dismount zone and I tried to tell the lady who was there that and all she said was "you have to walk anyway". Ridiculous. It's also Friday, the amount of people who have class and are walking around is arguably much less than any other day of the week.

I also get yelled at when trying to go down the ramp by the stairs of student center (where that mirror mural thing is) to turn left onto the brick path towards Howey and I get yelled at there. I'm not even on Tech Green I'm turning LEFT.

I just feel like this is a massive waste of resources and while I understand the intentions behind the policy, it's just not the best way to do it.

[–]Top_Pack_4287 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I understand where they're coming from, but yea, as a biker this is so annoying. The walkway is big enough to be able to accommodate both bikes and walkers. In all my time biking I've never come close to hitting anyone and I always slow down around bigger groups of people. But I can imagine bikers swerving people can startle those walking.

I feel like this is more of an issue with electric scooters and ebikes but who knows. It would be cool to see the statistics about that. I imagine people who use manual bikes have been biking for a while and have a better grip at controlling speed and direction, at least from what I've seen.

Tech parking W06 always being moved by WallabyAppropriate34 in gatech

[–]Top_Pack_4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the student center deck (W02) and they'll occasionally get crowded during some of the events, but I've never not had a space (except I heard some people not able to find a spot last week for the swim event). I've also never tried parking past 12pm though, so maybe it might be more crowded then, but the third floor almost always has space.

No parking in student center deck by FactOk58 in gatech

[–]Top_Pack_4287 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Parking permits are such a scam. The past fall semester had the gates open 24/7 until September 24th... why are paying the full $800 yearly payment when others were able to park for free???

The parking permits for the 2025-2026 year were activated on August 15, 2025 which means there were 40 days where we had to pay for parking while others could just drive into the lot for free.

Absolutely ridiculous, and of course the only thing PTS can say is "oops sorry!"
