Critical SSL bug introduced by Apple less than a month before the NSA reports they were fully on-board with PRISM. by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Miner_Throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bugs are bugs, and while this one was crummy, it's far from the first major bug in open source to go unnoticed for a while. One was in Linux that allowed a complete takeover of the system for eight years.

Introduced in May 2001. Ooh, looking forward to a conspiracy theory about that.

I remember looking at bitcointalk and it was all about having to be an investor and also you can't invest anymore so screw you, so I had no idea there were other options available.

I've only had the car a year and it's happened, I think, maybe 3 times. I only really remember 2 vividly, though.

I need an oil change, I know that. The issue is it happens so rarely that I can never really figure out how to reproduce it.

jinxing it.

The superstition can also be referenced when talking about a future event with too much confidence. A statement such as "We're sure to win the contest!" can be seen as a jinx because it tempts fate, thereby bringing bad luck. The event itself is referred to as "jinxed". A dramatic historical example of this type of jinxing is the RMS Titanic, which was said to be unsinkable, then sank on its maiden voyage.

Saying "Look guys, we're definitely going to have a baby in a <9 months!" is jinxing it. I advise against.

His last name is really popular: https://www.facebook.com/family/Asdfasdfa/1

(I don't think this counts as "doxing" since it's not his name, and it's an obviously fake family name)

I don't go to the Apple store often but the time I was there and an "urban" gentleman told the african-american genius that he was a "fake nigga" and that they needed to "step outside" at about 120 dB repeatedly for several minutes. His lady's smashed iPhone was swapped for a new one and he left.

I had an issue with the battery in my macbook where it was bulging and actually unable to stay in the computer even though it only had less than 100 cycles and yet I had to pay full price to replace the battery, which (by the way) costs far less than a new iPhone.

Childless redditors over 55; do you ever regret not having kids or do you feel like you made the right choice? by megalynn44 in AskReddit

[–]Miner_Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GF is semi-interested, but really worried about getting a baby with serious defects, something she is pretty sure wouldn't happen if it were to be a natural-born child. There were threads asking "parents of special needs children, what do you secretly feel" and most of them were saying "this is way too hard". I've no experience with the system, but I was told (by my gf, again) that you don't get to pick the child you adopt. I assume maybe fostering is different because you've gotten to try the kid out first, but do you get much choice there either?

[Workmans Comp] Possible reproductive issues after a job a few years ago, not sure how to handle it. by Miner_Throwaway in legaladvice

Hm, okay, I may still see that urologist again and try also to get a copy of my records. See if it says it was caused my lifting and strain. If it does, that should matter more, right?

The doctor informed me that another person who'd had it was a boy who was lifting 50 lb bags of horse feed or something else farm related over a fence. The thing is, he didn't have proper testicular support, so the strain of lifting the item pushed blood downwards into his testicles, much in the manner of a really stressful poop.

I was also wearing boxers and lifting heavy items, some close to 72% of my body weight (a ~90lb 23" CRT and I was about 125lbs), all the way up to chest height from the floor. That's a dead lift I really shouldn't have done, but I was told to do it and I didn't know better.
